The 7er and 6er aren't mainstream models because:

- their target market is pretty narrowly defined (compared to say the 1er, 3er & 5er)
- the "love it - or hate it" design is not as critical compared to the high-volume seller models
- the 6er and 7er are model vehicles of statement, where they really show what BMW's design philosophy is about
- they have such a distinctive look to clearly differentiate from competitors. This distinctive look is important to the wealthy target market buyers because they're all about image, the new-generation millionaires (as opposed to the old-school rich)..and they understand the 'dynamic' message of BMW designs.

Now the Concept CS is going to be positioned above the 7er, so it carries all those 4 points I mentioned above. This is why I think BMW will have the balls to produce this thing, but it's inevitable that there will be some minor tweaks to make it production-ready... but overall, I think it will still maintain the 'WOW' factor that the CS Concept possess.

But hey.. that's just my opinion
Well thats a nice explenation..wich i hope is vaild

Do I really have to give you an example ...just check out the Rapide concept. If BMW wanted to create Astons, why didn't they bid for it last month?
I reckon that there is vague similarities between the 2 concepts but as IE pointed it, these specific design clues aren't aston trademarks.

Also the guy in charge of AM design worked for BMW previously, more exactly on
the Z07 concept/becamed Z8.
The Z8 and 8er do share similarities with the AM range.

Re: BMW unveiled "Concept CS" !

I am going to love the next gen line of Bimmer designs even more than the current one. The next coming years will be awesome in terms of design.

I love the new exterior design, BMW fanboy or not.

Re: BMW unveiled "Concept CS" !

I don't know why some of you are complaining, this has got to be one of the best looking cars on the planet. It looks so exciting! from the proportions to the detailing- this car is designed to look special.

For me, the interior just looks a million bucks. The detailing, craftsmanship, materials, and the clever interplay of colours makes this one of the interiors ever to come of of a German car company.

If you don't agree with me, take some time and give this car a closer look- you'll soon apprecite it for what it's really worth.

Yes, new 8er / 9er / Z9 or whatever BMW will badge it will be produced. Not in the copy/paste form of CS Concept but I guess very similar.

Like I said: note what Z9 GT Concept was for then upcoming E63 6er, and what elements of then upcoming 7er elements were used on Z9 (Z9 was based on E65 design).

So CS is showcasing some details that will be used on upcoming models like 7er, X6, F5, Z4, 8er etc - especially the grille idea, surface design, back design etc. While general shape (especially profile) shows new 8er / 9er / Z9 - just like Z9 GT Concept was a model for E63 6er.

But do not expect exact CS Concept copy/paste to be produced anytime.

Such 4dr large GT vehicle - yes; some of the details as design idea - yes; copy/paste design of CS - no. This concept is a design study - just like Z9 GT & xCoupe were, not pre-production Concept like Z4 coupe Concept or M5 or M3 Concepts where only minor details were changed in production version.

Mind that in production vehicle the details will be refined, not so exaggerated.

Again:

Z9 GT Concept -------> E63 6er
CS Concept ----------> new 8er / 9er / Z9

Compare Z9 GT to 6er, please.

Because of this (Eni explained it well):
