Hi there people.
As some of you already know, I am also very interested in editing videos. You have already seen some of my videos here on the forum.
But this time I'd like to show you my biggest and most time taking project so far.
Here is a story I wrote about the making of, on the forum that this video is done for:
Okay people.
This is defenitely the biggest video project I have done so far.
At least from my point of view, how much work I put into this. Yeah, sure it's a video. But before you download and start viewing this video, I thought it would be even more interesting for you, if I told you the story behind it.
Well, first of all, I got the idea like 2 months ago, when I got to know that Down Low's latest single "Start The Riot" wouldnt get a video, and that really disapointed me. Cause this song is really so strong both musically and lyrically, that you really got to start this riot, and let the whole world know. You see, I would never just be quiet
So, at my work, when I was listening to this song over and over again, especially after I got the album, cause I found the album version like 100 times better then the single version, all these ideas and images started to come into my head. I knew, that if I was going to do this, I was going to do this like I never did it before. I was going to try to do this amateur-proffesional... But could I do this? Was it possible... Well, I thought I give it a try. All different ideas kept popping into my head, and it was so full of ideas, so I just got to start doing it.
I started to do the first shootings 4 weeks ago. It was so different, cause here I had a 5 minute song to cover, and I had to cover it in a way that I never did before. Sure I did the "Every Day (MMMM)" video differently, but I did it in 1-2 days. And as I was filming more and more, after some days here, I realised that this was gonna be totally different, and would take much much more time. This just could be done fast. I couldn't do this in 50%... I had to give it 101% to really take your breath away. That was the goal. To do something different, to suprise...
After a day or two, I realised that I didn't have enough of equipment to do this professional. Well, so I bought a quite expensive tripod, and did that help me or what. Suddently it got more and more fun, and I was really feeling like a video director. My head was loading and loading all the time with those ideas.
As the time went by, I was shooting in several cities, several occations, days or nights, mornings or evenings. I had my camera always with me, and as soon as I saw something I liked, I stopped the car, jumped out, took my camera and tripod, and got into work. Some days I also got help from my friend, cause this really was impossible to do by myself. It was so cool, because by doing all these scenes, you got close to so many everyday-people. Cause if you were shooting sometimes in the middle of a crowd, there was always somebody interested in what you was doing. Many wanted to be on the scenes, and sometimes it was so hard just to stand there, and wait for the perfect moment to get the scenes you wanted to. Sometimes you stood there a minute..sometimes 30 minutes... Sometimes you had to get permission to be in the place you wanted to be, and shoot the filming. Sometimes you had to wait 1 day t get it, sometime you got it immediately. Ans so many times people stopped and stared with the "what on earth are you doing"-face look
I really now know how much work the directors do to shoot a video. But...the big difference from them..and me, was that I had 1-2 people that could help me, my normal video camera, my tripod, Adobe Premiere, and of course my head with like 10000 ideas. The professional directors sure got 10000 ideas too, but they have crews on 100 people, lights, machines...everything for so much money. So I knew, that I could never make this "TV-like", but I was going to do my sure best to make it look as good as possible with the things I worked with and the budget I had.
Some day, when I sat there and edited at home, I realised that I moved away from the "red line" of the video, and I deleted so many scenes. One time I had done the first minute of the video, which took like a week, and I realised I wasn't happy with it, so I trashed it all, and started from the beginning. I had to make it exactly as I wanted it to be. Even if it would take some time. I always rush into things, when I want it done quickly. But not this time..hell no.
After so many nights of editing...so many scenes and days and occations of filming, I was getting closer to the end of this project. And i hour ago ago, when I played the last verision of the video... I though "yes...this is it. This is what I wanted it to be like.... This is is the end of this project..finally, it's exacltly as I wanted it to be"
The concept of the video is: Well, let's start the riot! It's Joe telling the whole world to listen up...to care...to stand up! So I filmed on so many locations...I wanted to get people everywhere..also houses, cars, poles, everything, signs, advertising..well everything!!!...and then, get Joe in there. "How on earth?", you think... Well, download the video, and you will see. I don't want to tell ya everything...hehe.
What I REALLY REALLY hope this time, is that you take your time and sit down, and really tell me your feelings about this video. Cause this took really really a lot of time, sweat, tears, nerves etc from me. To make this right. And for who? For the world... For you!!!
And the video is in black&white, cause then all the scenes fit more together. I did several versions. Color, sepia, blue...you name it. But b&w was sure the best one to use, and so it is.
Well, I just finished the final ripping, and I am so excited to put this out to the world. So, here it is my friends. THis is done for you...so take it your heart, and enjoy:

I don't know much about video editing, but from a layman's perspective I find your video to be very professionally-made - if I watched it on TV, I would have guessed it was the actual music video.
