Re: Sport Auto - Supertest: Murcielago LP640 - 12-16-2006, 01:56 AM

Script from Ajzhan on Supercars.net

"short summary and verdict:

Nurburgring, 7:47 mins.

it could have done better, the engine still has a lot of reserve to deliver, it loses a bit due to understeer, brakes are perfect, no fading

Hockenheim, 1:11.8 mins.

even though it is so powerful with its 640 bhp, the handling is absolutely perfect and save even for the unexperienced driver

again it shows understeer, no tendency to oversteer at all which would give it some more advantage

traction is perfect thanks to the (heavy) AWD

I checked the track tempatures: 18 Celsius air/22 Celsius asphalt

0-200-0 km/h, 16.1 secs.

enourmos power, perfect traction and tranny with paddle shifters, the brakes stand it, even though the heavy weight, nothing to complain about

max. later acceleration: 1.3g

thanks to the Pirelli P Zero Corsa tyres

36m slalom, 134 km/h

10 km/h fatser than the predeccessor, indirect steering, the car feels heavier than 1.8 tons, just a little oversteer, could be even better

110 m evasion test, 153 km/h

easy to manage, feels very save, with just a bit oversteer, controllable all the time, no suprise to the driver

wet handling, 1:29.2

a big suprise, even though the sporty Pirelli P Zero Corsa semi-slicks, the LP640 shows a perfect handling, feels very save with some understeer in the beginning and just a very little oversteer at the end

beats the Konigsegg CCR and Pagani Zonda to 4-5 secs. !!!

Verdict

makes fun to drive, scores 9 from 10 points,
not a very suitable daily drive, steering needs strong arms"

Thanks for posting...Good numbers, but still it's well known who's the king of the 'Ring.

Do you have the whole CGT Supertest? I'd like to see it again...

what is the rear wing doing there? is it becuase of all these accidents with Murcielagos? I guess the car gets easier to drive with that rearwing.

BTW thats one ugly rearwing. I take me Lambo without it,.

No clue regarding the rear wing, that's strange. However, as you said, it was probably put on the Murcielago because it was easier to drive at high speeds, it would have been interesting to see an LP640 without a wing and see how it fared against the old Murcielago in aeordynamic balance (after all the rear tray had been redesigned with high speed application in mind)

What I also noticed about this LP640 are the seats are special, they are not the typical Murcielago seats...Maybe the rear spoiler and seats are part of some sports package..because I know Lamborghini lists the Pirelli Corsa's as part of a "sports package"

LP640 - Supertest vehicle

LP640 - Common seats, usually what you see

Cool car, but I'd be curious to find out if that rear wing is functional.

It definitely appears so

The 6.2 litre Murcielago had a .34 drag co and was developing 34kg of lift at the front and 1kg of downforce at the rear. The LP640 has a .35 drag co, develops 30kg of downforce at the front (now it's a bit cleaner, allow air to travel faster) and 11kg at the rear, so it appears it is working. Might I mention the LP640 has a slightly different rear tray diffuser
