Bugatti Veyron Targa planned for 2008

Perhaps Bugatti got a little open-air envy after seeing the t-tops on Richard Losee's Ferrari Enzo, as we've just learned the Veyron will be shedding its roof in 2008 when the company introduces a targa version of its superlative exotic with a laminated glass roof panel developed by the same firm responsible for the Volkswagen Eos's folding hardtop. Since the Veyron's packaging is so tight, Inside Line reports that the roof panel cannot be stored on board. To compensate, Bugatti will develop a fabric panel that can be pulled in place to protect the car's interior from the elements if need arises.

Developing the Veyron Targa will involve strengthening the windshield and other structural modifications, so Bugatti will use carbon fiber for the car's doors and hood. The grille and the headlights, which will now turn with the wheels, will also be restyled. These changes should also be ported over to the coupe eventually.

The Veyron Targa's top speed of 217 mph will be lower than the coupe's upper bound of 253 mph, but that should be enough to keep it ahead of Losee's T-Top Enzo.

Re: Bugatti Veyron Targa planned for 2008

Amazing ......I love this car more and more ...it really is one of THE benchmark cars of all time.

As many have said about the Veyron already, "we will never see a car like it again" ...I guess some might say that's a blessing .....but seriously, this car is something truly extraordinary.

I'm not sure they need a Targa version ....but I guess if customers demand it then...

Re: Bugatti Veyron Targa planned for 2008

We may not see another Veyron, but I think it goes without saying that we'll most definately "see something like it again". Bugatti has made too big a splash for the other uber automakers to ignore and not take action in creating something just as outrageous if not more so. It may be a while before we see something like this again, these kinds of projects take a lot of time to develop and test thoroughly as we have already seen in the development of the Veyron. I'm very curious as to who will make the next uber car??? Let's also not forget that there are a frew other cars out there capable of achieving the same performance of the Veyron, though they may not carry the same depth of engineering (i.e. Saleen S7 Turbo).

....the point is Deutsch, VAG are loosing millions on every car sold ...I don't think other manufacturers are too desperate to emulate that somehow.

If we're talking about VW that's one thing, but not every other manufacture does things the VW way. VW took a brand that had not been developing or making any cars for a little over a decade and started from scratch. If Porsche did the same thing, the process to getting to a final production car would not be the same as it was for VW, they would already have a large pool of resources from which to pull parts from (thus lowering some of the initial development costs), the engineering know how for producing such a fast car. Basically if Porshce were to take on another uber car project (which undoubtably they will) it would be a major update to the CGT and would not loose much money at all in developing such a car thanks to the two main points I outlined above.

That is an intelligent argument Deutsch ...and you are most likely correct I would think

Good idea, especially for those who want a Veyron cab.

Re: Bugatti Veyron Targa planned for 2008

I still think the Veyron is a fat, ugly lump of car. And it gives me great glee that VAG loses money just to say it has the biggest penis in the car world.

And this is coming from an Audi fan, so I don't hate VAG. I just think they Veyron is stupid.
