LOL. Actually, I don't hate the painting so much. The subject matter is not [traditionally] beautiful ...but there is something quite intriguing and monumental about it.  I really like the work of Fernando Botero ...everything he paints or sculpts is fat.   As far as art prices go, they have reached extravagant levels in recent times (same with rare contemporary design objects and antiques). Last year this sculpture by Jeff Koons sold for $23.4 million  |

i think it's an insult to my intelligence when modernity calls what rob posted a sculpture, modern art has turned into an industry, there is very little real artistic sense remaining |

^ it is interesting, the whole 'art market vs. art' debate. We currently are living in a time of "icons" ....contemporary western culture is constantly looking for instant cultural "statements" and "expressions" -- even in the auto-industry. Jeff Koons heart sculpture is a bold [if superficial] icon -- it is cold and banal -- modeled directly from the kind of cheap throw-away heart balloon you might buy a girlfriend for Valentines day. I agree with you to a degree that the art world has become an industry -- this is something that agitates me also. |

Yeah, Jeff Koons latest art pieces are selling for ridiculous sums and the same goes for Damien Hirst's crafting resulting from his diamond fetish. |
