This mysterious Maserati prototype was spotted recently by spy photographers undergoing testing on a dynamometer, and led many to believe that it was a unique new model being developed possibly by Ferrari engineers. Not so, according to the guys at Autoblog nl., who suggest that this is in fact a new small Maserati GT that’ll be positioned below the recently launched GranTurismo.
In March, Maserati CEO Roberto Ronchi revealed to
Reuters his desire to expand the current lineup, with the most likely option being a small coupe rather than the speculated SUV model. The prototype, which features heavy camouflage on its roof and rear compartment suggest that this will be a cabrio of some type, and though a convertible version of the GranTurismo is due in 2009, the shorter wheelbase of the test mule means this is something very different.
