a nice, neat little car. It is definitely trying to do what the Mini has done, by making this car a fashion accessary people will buy it by truck loads. The problem is, the design is too literal. It really does look like a modernized copy of the original. The Mini is a far cleverer design than this IMO. I am willing to bet that this model will not have any where near the longevity of the Mini. The biggest difference I believe is, this car (like the VW Beetle) is a single 'product' ...the Mini is not just a single product it is a whole 'concept'. By this I mean the Mini has a lot of room to be developed and reinterpreted for future models. The new Mini is not just a model in and of itself -- and not just a sentimental pastiche of a past vehicle like this Fiat. |

As much as it pains me to say this, because I was always under the impression that FIATs were rubbish... they're well made. I took a trip to Italy with my international marketing class, and we were given a tour of the Punto/Grande Punto plant in Torino, and the cars are very well put together. It was really cool to see all the steps of the assembly line, and all the workers seemed to take pride in what they do. We were even given little Punto die-casts in 1/43rd scale. Beautiful. I love the way the designers managed to retro style this car. Simply lovely. It's already a cult car and this will ensure that it will sell well.  Just look at the new MINI and new VW Beetle. |
