Take a G37 rear, and IS 250 front, some SLK guages, and a Cadilac CTS interior, and what do you get?

A Hyundai

Re: Hyundai Genesis Coupe revealed unofficially

Well I for one like it, because for a Hyundai it looks damn good. Of course it can't be original, but it isn't a blatant copy of any one particular car either....except for the Infiniti G37 Cooupe. Though the side window dip treatment is one unique feature at least. The interior isn't bad either. A 300hp V6 and priced right, this thing is going to sell.

Re: Hyundai Genesis Coupe Thread

By calling this a Genesis Coupe... doesn't Hyundai create seom sort of confusion?!

I mean the Genesis Sedan is supposed to be a "high-end luxury" car... and this is simply a RWD version of a POS Tiburon ?!

Re: Hyundai Genesis Coupe Thread

I think "Genesis Coupe" was given to this car by the press. I think come Wed when it is officially revealed we'll get another name. Otherwise you're right this does dilute their luxury car plans to some degree. And actually they have another car in store to replace the Tiburon because this car will be more expensive than the Tiburon. This Coupe moves upmarket, and with RWD it has too in price.

Re: Hyundai Genesis Coupe Thread

I think Luw is allergic to Hyundai's. Fly in for the N.Y. autoshow, take a look at the car up close and personal, and you should get better in seconds.

Perhaps being the only one here having viewed the concept in person I can provide the following thoughts and observations; It's entirely different when you can "feel" what you're looking at as oppose to just looking at one dimensional photo's. In application to the concept, I was extremely taken aback at just how masculine the design was; the car sat low and squat with minimum overhangs front and back, a very planted at the corners stance, athletic. There is a slight drought of details on the surface, but with the shape of the car it doesn't need a lot of fine detailing, the various "swoosh" like details such as the character line (or form) and various shapes of different elements of the design make up for this. With the production car retaining the majority of the concepts features minus a few garish details it's more or less the same car. I'd be very interested to see some different wheel options though, the ones on the car in the PR shots look of a bygone era. The interior looks clean and minimalist with what look to be decent plastics, and I like the highly bolstered sports seats that will probably be more than effective in fast and hard cornering. So not much criticism for the looks.

I'm more interested to know engine performance specs for both 4 and 6 cylinder models, and most of all how the car delivers handling wise; if some of you remember Hyundai USA's president John Krafcik made a very bullish statement that the benchmark in the development of the BK (internal code name) coupe was the E46 M3, and the new RWD Hyundai is said to be 20% stiffer than the Bimmer. I have no doubt we'll be seeing comparison runs between these two to see how well the claim holds up and how good of a job Hyundai engineers did in meeting or exceeding their highly esteemed benchmark.

Moi allergic to Hyundais?? Not at all Out of all the small SUV on the market the Santa Fe would be my choice, to me it's more attractive than than the RAV4, CV-R and Tiguan. Take a look at the Genesis thread and you'll find out that I'm its biggest fan on the forum.

Although the Genesis coupe concept is attractive the production car simply didn't translate into the same raptor-like handsomeness. All the swooshy lines make me feel queasy, and I don't get why all these Asian's manufacturers have suddenly begun to engage in over-design. The Mazda 6 turned rather nice but the new Nissan Maxima and this Genesis coupe fall into the basket of excess design.

I'll definitely side with you on the Nissan Maxima being an "excessive" design.
