Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X Thread

I have finally pin point my major issue with the design of the Evo X. The rear wheel arch flare should start earlier from the rear door, so the middle of the flare should line up with the top of the wheelarch, like the RS6.

The existing design made the car look longer than it is from front 3/4 view and side view. Hope this make sense.

It's going to be a corker no doubt and quite possibly raise the bar higher than Subaru can hope to match with the new STI when it comes to dynamic performance.

However, in the looks department I feel it's a a bit of a let down. This is the problem when you release a preview concept that contains key detail elements that enhance what is otherwise a rather generic three-box saloon shape and then are unable to migrate these detail elements to the production version. The car's only unique feature is that huge gaping maw - it's all front and nothing else. Pity...

Furthermore, the heavy-sided sheetmetal on the rear flanks overwhelms the wheels and makes this EVO look porky. Not a good thing.

CYPRESS, Calif. -- Mitsubishi Motors North America (MMNA) today debuted to North America the all-new and much-anticipated 2008 Lancer Evolution. Building on the success of the all-new Lancer launched in spring 2007, and the all-new Outlander crossover SUV, Mitsubishi introduces the high-performance 2008 Lancer Evolution, which was recently awarded Popular Mechanic's 2008 Automotive Excellence Award (Fun to Drive category.) Next-Generation Lancer Evolution

Noted as the pinnacle of Mitsubishi's rally-inspired technology and engineering, Mitsubishi introduces the 2008 Lancer Evolution, the newest and most sophisticated version of the legendary high-performance model series that began in Japan 16 years ago. Lancer Evolution goes on sale in early winter. While remaining true to the core values that have made the Lancer Evolution synonymous with thrilling performance, the next-generation model offers all-around capability and user technology that distinguish the world's best performance models. The strikingly styled 2008 Lancer Evolution showcases new performance and handling technology, including an all-new 291-hp (est.) 2.0-liter turbocharged/intercooled engine and the Super-All Wheel Control (S-AWC) dynamic handling system. S-AWC offers an extraordinary level of control at each wheel, going well beyond the capabilities of other all-wheel drive systems.

The Lancer Evolution's S-AWC system regulates drive torque at each wheel by controlling a network of dynamic handling technologies, including: Active Center Differential (ACD) 4-wheel drive, Active Yaw Control (AYC) rear differential, Active Stability Control (ASC), and Sport ABS brakes. SCOTTSDALE, Arizona — Mitsubishi today announced pricing for the highly anticipated 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X. The estimated price for the base-level, five-speed manual-transmission-equipped Evo GSR is $34,000. The MR model outfitted with Mitsubishi's new six-speed dual-clutch transmission identified as the Twin Clutch-Sequential Sportshift Transmission (TC-SST), starts at $39,000.

Mitsubishi officials say this is a conservative estimate, and hope that final pricing will come in approximately $1,000 less for each model including delivery fees. The previous Lancer Evo IX sedan started at $28,679 for the base car, and $35,189 for the MR trim.

Mitsubishi says the Lancer Evo GSR will go on sale in February, but isn't as specific regarding the Evo MR's timeline, only saying the car would be available in the spring of 2008. The vagueness seems to be connected to delays in the advanced MR's tuning.

Also announced today were official EPA ratings for the Evo X. The GSR earned 16/22 mpg for city/highway, while the paddle-shifting MR did slightly better with 17/22 mpg.

The 2008 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution X made its worldwide debut in October at the 2007 Tokyo Auto Show.
