No one is going to be stating it is a dismissed design concept as all final proposals take elements from initial design concepts , basically the elements they like on one car can be combined to elements on another two or three cars. The BMW Board are very choosy they can come in and say I like this element , and I like this on this car can you combine these two ? It's the same with either industrial or production design - surely if you watch the documentaries on DVD's you can see the director on some approve some ideas and make suggestions for refinement which is what happens with automotive design concepts also.

Because all ideas give form to one final proposal they are not going to announce that this was an idea that we are not going to use because some elements will be reused or refined they are not going to come in and give the game away a few years before introduction.
I know that they did not like the clam-shell hatch simply because "Audi does that and they follow us not the other way around".

I honestly never understood why the board has such decisional power on the design of cars, they are no design experts, so where's the legitimity in letting them shape or choose the final designs ?
