There are a lot of W124's still around in Europe. Most of them though are entry level models: 200D, 250D's, E220 Diesel, 200E and 230E's. You could buy them for cheap money and stuff a V8 that will fit into them if you desired.

This is interesting Christian .....and some people say Germans are practical people with no sense of humour

Fabulous cars Chris. Have you seen (Classic 1950's Mercedes-Benz Type 300)this thread -- the black cabriolet is beautiful

I agree, the track display was pretty creative. And it is arranged from cars dating from 2005 to racing Benzes from the early 20th century.

LOL about the ship. It belonged to Otto van Bismarck, the chancellor of Germany from that period. The engine came from Benz, so I guess it is allowed to be in the museum. I wish they had a original Messerschmidt BF-109 fighter aircraft from World War II in there though. The engine (in the album) came from Daimler-Benz.

Just checked out your thread, Roberto. I was gone for so long because I was on a roadtrip in England, France and Belgium with my parents.

1. Are these cars owned by MB and kept there for display or do some people that own them rotate them in for display?
2. Do you have, and I don't know because I haven't checked your album, any pictures of the interiors of the concepts that mb had?

Man I must say that it is very interesting to see designs change through time. I was looking at one of the first pictures of one of the cars which I think was the SSK sports car, is so interesting. I like to imagine what it was like for people to see these cars for the first time. I imagine it was the same feeling as seeing the new s class, you know that it is brand new and is soooo futuristic.
Thanks.

1) From what I gathered, the cars on display all belong to Mercedes-Benz. In some cases, like the S203 C220 CDI T-Modell Police Cruiser, they were bought back by Mercedes-Benz for the purpose of being displayed in the museum. Same deal with Arnold Schwarzeneggers W140 S600 I presume.

2) I tried getting some interior shots of the concepts, but they were positioned on table-like displays that prevented you from checking out the interiors. I only got the F400 Carving interior I believe and some horrible angled shots of the F100, F200 and F500 interiors. Would have loved to get a closer look at the C111!

I always enjoy reading your reports, this one is very informative. Thank you so much for sharing

BTW, hope your parents feel better.
Thanks Yaz. Very kind words. Thanks so much.

My folks are feeling much better now. In fact my dad was drooling over the pictures I showed him. Have to go there again, but I will give it some time in the hope that they add more cars. Lot's of space left in the museum!

Thanks.

You can check out the factory's at Untertürkheim and Sindelfingen. Sindelfingen is more of a customer center, but they have free factory tours where you can usually see C or E-Classes being produced. If you're a soccer fan, you can check out the Gottlieb Daimler Stadion.

Wow! What a great post, cawimmer. Thanks for making me aware of this thread, Roberto.

I just love this picture. My family had a champagne coloured 230E in Hong Kong with the identical wheels. I loved the car. I can't believe this particular W124 has 1.9 million km! I think the cars in this great museum sets a quality standard that the current crop of Mercedes-Benz vehicles will never meet.

Cawimmer, I've to ask you this: did you find any armoured vehicles there?

I had a ride today in a W124 250D and the taxi driver (a hot mid 20ish year old blonde with big...you know...) was raving about it. The car had 608,000+ KM on the odometer, which is little for a W124 taxi!

No armoured vehicles, unless that big black 770 was armoured, which it may have been since it was a VIP car in Nazi Germany!
