The AMG engines have a shorter life-span then the normal Mercedes-Benz engines. The typical life span of the AMG engines is like 3-4years (the same life-span with the androids in the movie Blade-Runner )compare that to a typical Mercedes-Benz engine which is like 7-years before thay get replaced. Of course there are exceptions but this is the norm. This being the case the currant Bi-Turbo V12 in the S65 doesn`t have that long to live. In fact between 2008-10 is when a new engine should be introduced with a f/l in the S and CL-Class. As Alwing noted we really don`t know how reliable this source is. On top of that I don`t believe we will be seeing AMG modified Mercedes-Benz engines anymore. The M156 6.2liter V8 is a pure AMG engine. It`s large capacity recalls the 6.3liter of the earily 70s S-Class. I read an article that thay might introduce a 6.9liter engine sometime in the future from edmunds.com. This engine size would also recall a large capacity, powerful S-Class V8 back in 1979. Thay didn`t indicate if it was going to be a V8 or V12 though. AMG has a secret up their sleeve. We might be in for a surprise. Last edited by GTA8.5; 06-27-2007 at 03:38 PM. |

Ok, I just went to the grocery store yesterday and picked up Automobiles latest issue to check out the supposed "Gullwing" by Mercedes-AMG. It seems Automobile magazine is saying Mercedes has given this project the green light. Thay also noted that the M157 Bi-Turbo V8 will get Direct- Injection with a supposed 750hp!! thay also say another version is in the wings with a supposed 1000hp! ( if version 2 gets 1000hp what about the upcoming V12??) "The Bugatti Veyron will retire soon, making this Mercedes the most powerful production car in the world." so Automobile-magazine says. I have herd of two versions of this engine before. The eariler predictions were saying the light-pressure HAMMERI was supposed to get 571hp (The upcoming RS6 already matches that number. Maby AMG wants to jump the gun again ) while the laddeer HAMMER2, 700hp. Thay didn`t mension the use of Direct-Injection. I can inagine all the new DOHC MB engines will get this technology. In either case it seems MB must produce this engine for their upcoming supercars. I don`t see how thay could cancel this engine to use the N/A M156. |

Hopefully we will see it in three years when the SLR is all forgotten. Even with 1000hp I doubt it will make the Veyron retire. The Veyron is superb because it can get all it's power down to the ground and not because it has a 1000hp engine. |

![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() | Re: AMG M157 Bi-Turbo V8! Mercedes AMG revived the 6.3 nameplate of the late 60s with the new 6.2liter DOHC V8 but will thay revive the 6.9 nameplate of the 70s? I believe there is a strong possibility!! This revived nameplate I believe will replace the current S65 (as AMG engines typically have about a 4-6 year production life spans) The Orignal 450SEL 6.9 was an incredible car for it`s time (as the 6.3 was) Read about the article here: The Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL 6.9 If thay did it with the 6.3 the 6.9 should make a comeback. It should be a V12 with God only know how much power! |
