Yeah I forgot about that state of tune they had for the CLK DTM and I'm the one that used to remind folks that the new AMG V8 was capable of 580 naturally aspirated hp!!! I still think the heavier cars need more torque than hp, but a 580hp version of that engine would be nice in something I supposed. Maybe the E/CLS 63 models should have had a 550hp version? I wonder if the SLR will get this new V8? M

The Kompressor V8 in the SLR is supposed to get a powerboost. I have three questiions with the S63 getting the N/A V8. 1.If the S63 is going to get the M156 n/a V8 how come it didn`t debut with the CLS63 and CLK 63. 2. Why do we have to wait almost a year to get a supposed 15 to 20hp in an engine that already exists. 3. Why is the M157 Bi-Turbo predicted to debut January 2007, in what model It can`t be the SLR, as I said before the SLR is predicted to get a power boost, so MoterTrend says. ![]()

1. It isn't going to be n/a in the S63. It won't have the power needed to improve performance over the SC S55. 2. We're waiting because the turbo V8 will have at least 50 more hp than the n/a unit. 3. Motor Trend is speculating just like all of us are. I'll add one more speculation to list. Mercedes produced the CLS55 for just one year with the 5.5L SC V8 before showing the CLS63. The S65 debuted early for that same reason. For 2008 it wil get a boost to likely 650hp to make room for the 560-570hp turbo V8 for the SL/CL/S "63" models. Mark my works on this! M

Yes, I believe that. MB likes to stay ahead in the powergame so this shouldn`t be a surprise. I`m wondering when this horsepower war will end though. it`s a real WAR going on between the German makes!! If this power war keeps up within 20 years these cars will be pushing 700hp from their new 7.5liter Bi-Turbo AMG V8s! while the C-Class pushing more that 550hp from the same 7.5liter V8s in n/a of course. By then AMG will have a more free hand in overall tuning like the CLK-DTM with the AMG models By then we might have a S85 AMG pushing about 850hp from it`s 8.4liter Bi-Turbo V12! ![]()

![]() Unless they dont improve the roads and raise the speedlimit and teach people how to drive a 850hp car, then it seem to be very pointless car imo.

Don`t you know the BMW M5 pattern by now?! BMW M division likes to play this game a little differently than Mercedes! While MB keeps coming at you with even larger V8s (as I predect) BMW adds two more cylinders and 100hp with every generation M5. So expect the next generation M5 to have a 5.5liter V12 with about 580-600hp. It will happen, just watch.

i think you are right it does seem like they add 2 cylinders and 100 more hp for every gen. but i doubt it will have 600 or more hp......580 sounds resonable though

When I said that BMW will give the M5 more horsepowers then I didnt mean next generation, Im talking about the current one, E60. BTW Remember that E36 and E46 M3 both had I6 engines. E36 M3 had 321hp and E46 M3 343hp, not 100hp difference.

Oh, I thought you were talking about the next generation model. I don`t believe BMW will modifiy the currant model`s engine size to 5.5liters. As I said before that would make the value of the currant model drop like a rock, heck, we just got the currant model here in the US! no modifications or increases in power. The next generation models will get V12s, I`d be willing to bet on that. As far as the 100hp increase I was talking about the M5 not M3. ![]()
