I'd rule the E out unless you get a real good deal on it. If you plan to sell it in one year, the new E63 will be all fresh and many owners will trade in theirs for the new one, so expect poor resale value.

The CLS would be my choice, I adore that car and the 500 is a fantastic motor.

The C would be the passion-choice, and it comes with 5-seats... but can you handle so much power, and what if gas prices start to climb again?

Why not a nice fully-loaded C350? Recent car, comfy, 5-seats, very nice motor...

CLS 500 - so many great Mercedes virtues in one car and all the power you'd need coming from a C220 CDI. E63 residuals will plummet once the new E-Class version comes out. Yet, there's still some life in the CLS bodyshell and it will always be sleek and classy and unique.

E-Class has been already replaced, and CLS is about to be replaced too in a year or so, so I would go for a C63 wich looks stunning and is the sportiest car of the ones you can choose.

May as well go for the newest car, the C63 AMG.

You could also look at a used E55 AMG or CLS55 AMG, equally fast and fun to drive in their own way.

I am not sure how much more the E63 will drop in value. The prices are already very low. When a 07 E63 is cheaper then a 08 C63 I don't think the E will drop that much lower. E has more options and room, CLS is nice but not an AMG.
Screw it, get a SL55.

Like Gullwing stated most E63 have already dropped in price and if you get one that's out of warranty the previous owners have already taken the biggest hits in depreciation. Because of the age, putting mileage on it wouldn't be a concern, making it an excellent "gap year" car. Most of the 07s have already lost 35-45% of their value and won't be dropping much more.

The C63 must be a blast on the south African roads but the E63 more cost effective. As for the CLS, I adore the car but you should take this opportunity to treat yourself with a thrilling car.

After driving a C350 Sport for a few days I can't imagine what C63 must drive like, I'd go for the C63 AMG.

C63 ... will not be totally obsolete till 2015, most modern in terms of new MB design direction and simply stunning! Of Course, I love them all BTW.
