Bluetec Blues

This is a discussion on Bluetec Blues within the The Mercedes-Benz Lounge forums, part of the Mercedes-Benz category; I was wondering if anyone has heard nightmare stories about the costs to replenish the adblue exhaust additive being used ...

Bluetec Blues

I was wondering if anyone has heard nightmare stories about the costs to replenish the adblue exhaust additive being used in the Bluetec SUV's.

I have heard that junk runs about $35 to $40 per gallon and one can expect about a $250 bill every 10k miles to refill. That is more than what a routine A-service cost be itself. So double your service bill folks. Nice one Mercedes.

Re: Bluetec Blues

I heard it was around the cost of diesel per gallon. I highly doubt it would cost in upwards of $40 a gallon. It's not like they put it in a barrel and age it 10 years...

Re: Bluetec Blues

I thought the dealership was going to refill the AdBlue tank at every routine service free-of-charge?

Re: Bluetec Blues

I'm just relaying an encounter with a service customer after getting their bill.
I'm looking into it, to see if that is legit.

Re: Bluetec Blues

$15.50 per bottle which holds half gallon. ML takes 7.4 gallons.
It is cheaper if service center installs pump, but I can't imagine it being 80% cheaper.

So did I ... especially since BMWUSA are offering a free-of-charge urea refill for the first 4-years, or 50,000 miles. A refill is needed approx. every 15,000 miles.

Re: Bluetec Blues

Is the urea-tank accessible?

Then you could say to the client to refill it himself. Instead of just going to the toilet, he could do two very interesting things: the first, making himself ridiculous by peeing at his own car, the second saving $80...

Re: Bluetec Blues

Yeah AdBlue is really a bad idea. I mean it gets the job done but also increses the cost to the user. I hope Euro 6 engines get rid of the additive as it is really not the greatest thing MB has came up with.
