When you compare BMW and Mercedes-Benz to class leading efficiency , Mercedes complately lags behind BMW as does Audi and Porsche. Eco-groups and Governments recognise developments to improve efficiency where as BMW has scored all the plaudits and left the others behind. If you think Mercedes-Benz and their directors and shareholders are saying **** You to Governments and Eco Groups behind closed doors because they are not recognising the need for more efficient vehicles then you are far removed from the reality of the industry. Mercedes-Benz totally aware BMW are further ahead with Efficient Dynamics are in no doubt intent to close the gap therefore we are witnessing the birth of a new strategy . Today it is not about innovation to who is the fastest , some believe that and are consumed that it has to be this . Today the innovation is all about the next stage in reducing fuel consumption and alternative sources of power It is all about sustainability and making sure that there is a tomorrow for your business. When Mercedes read the headlines regarding their lack of environmental responsibility when BMW get praised surely has pushed some buttons in Stuttgart that they have to get back on track quickly. The SLC will possibly be the last of it's kind in excessive power outputs expected by Mercedes-Benz , now they understand that they have to go lighter , increase efficiency and respond unconventionally . One thing I will tell you and that many will not accept that the days of manufacturers pandoring to the wish lists of fanboys is well and truly over. The tuning market will cater for the excessive but I wonder if Mercedes feel the same way Gerhard Richter feels about tuners that an outside tuner upgraded BMW M Car is no longer a BMW M car. The RS6 is a nice fast car, but WAAAAAY too late. BMW and Merc are moving on with other things for their fast cars. Hilarious.

Sure the environment and all that jazz is important, reducing fuel consumption and what not, but the "business" isn't going to be around if you don't build cars that people want. You can word it anyway you want, but saying the excess is over while prepping 2 500hp SUVs is just plain two-faced. Say that the way you get the 500hp is going to change, not that there won't ever be anymore 500, 600hp cars. Where is the definition of excessive as it relates to hp? A 5000lb, 500hp SUV is excessive, no matter how many turbos the V8 has. No one needs more than 300hp in any type of vehicle. BMW must have the lead in Europe with the green people, because you sure can't buy a ED BMW here. M
