Weight saving....that's really good news! In the last years each new generation of cars was heavier and heavier than the previous generation.
We have so many cars that are very fast on a straight line but corner as well as oil tankers do.
Lotus already realized this and we all know the success the Elise has had.
Hopefully, more auto makers will follow with this philosophy...

It is the PC thing to say, so they say it. No one is going to say, "screw the planet, we are going to continue the HP war." I doubt the cars are going to get less powerful or even lighter - with a very few exceptions.

^True,IMO Mercedes-Benz is the pride of Germany just like Ferrari is the pride of Italy,they will never play second in power game at least with the German rivals.The cars might get lighter and greener but that's about it.

The new engines is gonna be a huge hit i'm sure,plus they need a monster ones for the new Paganis...right Artist?

They aren't serious about weight shedding. The new E-class is much heavier than the W211.

For weight shedding, you have to go to the neighbours in Munich. The F10 will be lighter than the E60 is, and he F01 is lighter than the E65.
The Z4 is an exception, because it got a folding hardtop. But the regular cars ALL become lighter.

^well the AMG dude said that the E63 will be lighter than the outgoing modell..
I guess he isnt lying publically?

Nowadays if a car doesn't gain any weight from one version to the next that can be considered progress.

And....actually what he said was that the E63 would be the first to get the weight saving technologies, not that it would specifically be lighter. In reality it might lose just a few pounds compared to the outgoing version just like most claimed "lighter" cars do. That is unless something radical is done, which I don't think is going to happen.

MB leaving horsepower war, I believe it when I see it. Audi said the same thing a couple of years ago.

Regarding E63. According to the pressrelese there is already a E63 for the W212 modell with 525hp. So are MB going to do a total makeover for the E63 so soon? I dont want to buy a E63 now with 525hp if MB within a year is giving us a new and lighter E63.

He means the upcoming E63. Wouldn't make sense to debut an E63 AMG at Frankfur this year and then turn around and make such changes a year later.

Mornhinweg said that the new Mercedes E63 AMG, due to be seen later this year, would be the first beneficiary of weight-saving technologies.

The new Mercedes E63 AMG will be lighter than the outgoing model and have the option of the manual wet-clutch gearbox first seen on the SL63, in order to provide more grunt with better economy.

It will be like the last time.. 525hp until SL hits..and then FL of the E..by then we will have a new M5... and the FL E63 will get a power boost

MB sure change their engine power on their AMG models often. Maybe they should give the normal Benzes more power instead, (hint, the C-class).

PS SL65 Black Series is 200 kg lighter than SL65 using lightweight technology.
