  | Mercedes' AMG division calls 2008 best year on record  Automotive sales are down - way down - and everyone knows it. But for a select few companies at the very highest levels of the industry, sales are just fine - in fact, better than ever for some. Mercedes' AMG division is among the latter group, with 2008 set to be the best year on record. Despite even parent company Mercedes-Benz's troubles maintaining sales at 2007 levels, business at the AMG division is bustling. Parts sales and special equipment are serving to boost the bottom line, and though sales volumes of actual AMG cars are holding steady at 2007 levels - just over 20,000 - the level of profitability in 2008 will be the best ever according to Klaus Maier, reports Auto Motor & Sport.
