They certainly are. What irks the AMG boys is the fact that Mercedes AG is also preparing a number of sophisticated turbocharged V8s with a displacement of 4.0, 4.6 and 5.5 litres - and power outputs of 355, 435 and 544bhp. The two companies appear to be on a collision course...
This is what my post is about, the future Merc engines. But it says turbocharged, Is this meanning twin turbos or somethin more like CGI engines?.

Found another report for ya. It appears that the current reports arn`t too clear on the how Mercedes will implement the use of turbo charging with every engine. That remains to be seen.

All Mercedes Cars to be Turbocharged by 2010; Full Hybrid to Join S Class Next Year

Right, Daimler R&D's Thomas Weber.
Mercedes-Benz will introduce turbocharged engines across its entire lineup in the next two-and-a-half years.
"All our vehicles will have turbocharged engines in series production by the end of 2010 at the latest," Thomas Weber, Daimler board member responsible for research and development, told Automotive News Europe at a press event in Dusseldorf, Germany, today.
Forthcoming legislation in Europe and the U.S. is forcing automakers to reduce auto emissions.
Demand for turbochargers is growing, because they offer a proven and relatively inexpensive way to reduce fuel consumption. With the addition of a turbocharger, Daimler will be able to install smaller, lighter and more fuel-efficient engines without sacrificing performance.
Under current proposals, the European Commission will ask the German automaker to cut its average fleet emissions from 178 grams per kilometer to 138 g/km by 2012. The commission will fine automakers that fail to meet the targets.
Improving the efficiency of its existing engines is the first part of Daimler's strategy to reduce carbon-dioxide emission levels across its fleet. Weber said the medium-term step would be to introduce more hybrid technology. The S class -- Mercedes' flagship sedan -- will be offered as a full hybrid vehicle starting in 2009.
Weber also said that zero-emission driving is the German automaker's long-term goal. To get there, the automaker plans to use technology such as fuel cells and electric-powered vehicles. A full-electric version of the Fortwo from Mercedes sister brand Smart goes into production in 2010.

Re: What´s the story with MB engines for the future?

let us put it this way
the way BMW is heading is to downsize all engines and turbocharge them
like instead of having a big V8 they will have a small turbo V8 and modulate its output
basically they will end up with a turbo 1.6 I4, turbo 2.0 I4, turbo 3.0 I6, turbo 4.4V8, and turbo something V12
mercedes also will have a similar lineup.
meaning that instead of having big and bulky engines with varying displacement for varying output, they will have fewer engines with turbocharging enabling them to cover the whole range of outputs required with 5 mainstream engines instead of the ten or so today
it saves money in building, and delivers higher efficiency overall

Re: What´s the story with MB engines for the future?

What is clear is that there should be about to introduce a few new engines for the E-Class and the CLK, cause if they have plan to have an entire new model range for 2010, the first car with them should be E-Class or CLK.
