Re: Speedo Question

Is it not national speed limit in the country you live in or where the car was built?

Either that or is telling you your going to slow

Re: Speedo Question

I don't have those markings on my W203 C55, but my guess is those markings at 70, 120, and 200 are the maximum speeds attainable in 1st, 2nd, and 3rd gears, which may be useful for those rare MB's with manual transmissions.

What car is that picture from?

Re: Speedo Question

Wimmer answered this once, but I can't remember what he said. I think he mentioned something about German speed limit or some sort of reminder for the driver that they're doing that speed. I know some cars sound an alram when they reach above 120km/h (but not in the US).

Gotta wait for Wimmer to answer this.

This can't be true! I don't know any transmission that can go up to 70km/h with 1st, 120km/h with 2nd and 200km/h with 3rd gear!

Re: Speedo Question

New MB´s dont have this..
I have it in my W123 and i know that the W124 has it aswell
So cars from that era upto W210 has those yellow zones

For example check this E50 AMG.. it has 2 zones :S

PS
My bet is that the yellow zones are where the car drinks the least fuel..
But i could be wrong..

Re: Speedo Question

The areas at 20-30 and 50-60 are a reminder for german speed limits in town: 30km/h in some zones of a town, 50km/h in town.

I don't know for sure for the I at 70km/h, II at 120 and III at 200, it is probably a gear-limit reminder.

Re: Speedo Question

In some German cars this form of graphic on the speedo denotes the "danger zone" for engine operation in terms of minimum and maximum rpm. The higher speed graphic depicts the highest safe speed for the engine in 1st gear and the lower speed graphic denotes the lowest safe speed (ie without lugging the engine) for the engine in top gear.
