Man this is a sweet car ....I think I love this model (R107) more now than I did when it was still in production ....very good-looking car -- it is a total classic.

I guess they viewed Mercedes as a more serious threat to Jaguar than Audi perhaps. You never know how these Royals think...

Re: ***Mercedes-Benz Museum (Part 8): GALLERY OF CELEBRITIES***

Good lord, these old Benzes (and the photography) are just beyond words. Even the relatively recent R129 fits right in. I guess this cements Rob's point about Benz's design cues because the newer ones would look as at home as that R129 does next to the really older models.

This early R129 is just so classic.

Re: ***Mercedes-Benz Museum (Part 8): GALLERY OF CELEBRITIES***

^^ ...Mercedes has created (or re-interpreted) a lot of new styling cues with the recent models -- I would expect to see the Sacco influence fade even more with the next generation -- they are reinventing what Mercedes looks like ....and this is largely because Mercedes puts more importance on styling today than ever before.

Wow, thanks for this thread! Awesome pictures.

That armored 600 Pullman is incredible. It does look funny though, with the raised roof. Does anyone think that the "old" armored cars look a lot more noticeable than today's armored cars? That 600 Pullman has a noticeably thick frame around the exterior glass and rear windscreen. Dead giveaway that the car is armored, but it was produced in 1965.
