Test drove the New Audi TTS

I thought I would post up my thoughts on the new AUDI TTS I drove yesterday evening, late afternoon.
not a fan of this type of car as Im not a ''wind in ya hair'' type of person, nor am i a hairdresser.
First impressions with looks, it does look good, it looks sportier than the cooking model and has the looks of a car you just want to jump and take for a spin.

I went out alone. THOROUGHLY enjoyed driving a car that makes a noise, WHAT A NOISE
i mean most 2.0 turbos sound nice, bt muffled by the turbo somewhat quiter than there non turbo counterparts. This thing sounds parpy and loud under hard acceleration but as the revs rise it goes a bit wheezier (As the turbo runs out of puff).
You can hear a whoosh and a churp of the turbo which in all honesty sounds fantastic, it sounds much better than the RS6 twin turbo.
It does sound a little ''Boy racer'' though. Which I didnt mind. I quite liked it.
She is a quick car, 270bhp odd and similar figure for the torque. I got all four wheels (4wd) to spin several times when launching and also when shifting into second with the DSG box. Box was smooth enough but was nice to have one paddle for downshifts and one for upshifts (my 335d has paddles but both can go up or down). Shifts were dealt with promtly and effectively whether up or down.
I did a 0-60 video for you which i will post up at some point. The car is supposed to do 0-60 in under 5 secs i believe.
Comparing to my 335d is difficult as there aimed at different people and different markets.
But on a purely performance related pointof view its ''Slower''
Not only does it feel slower once rolling above 40-50mph it ''WAS'' slower down my tale tale roads. I didnt get a chance to try any heroic drivng, but the car felt planted and stable at speed. The ride compared to my NON runflat shod 335d was good, actualy better. Didnt feel any potholes.
The magnatic ride was good, i liked it. The car handled well and felt neutral. No doubt on track it would understeer though as Audi 4wd inherantly do unfortunately.
Dynamically, it didnt feel as surefooted as the capable E92 BMW. I think of a dry track the Audi would be left standing by the derv. (No doubt some will not want to believe this)
Straightline acceleration the mapped 335d is quicker than the TTS. 0-60 would be close, maybe in the TTS favour due to the 4wd but above 60mph, ie 60-100mph the 335d WILL pull away considerably. After 100mph the 335d is gone. Map the TTS and they would be closely matched for sure.
Its amazing really as ive been pretty unenthusiastic about the 335d lately. Feels slow etc.
It was a revelation getting into a petrol 2.0 turbo. Its was great fun and i enjoyed it, but what amazed even more was how good the 335d felt afterwards.
She felt more ''weighty'' especially the steering, and feels more chuckable and surefooted around the bends.
The low down grunt is great and it really made me realise once again how GOOD a mapped 335d is.
I would not swap it for a TTS. No way.. The 335d is such an accomplished bit of kit. So dynamic.
But the TTS is a great car, a great car for ones missus!!
The interior is typically Audi. Sublime and very stylish. No better than BMW but a different style..

Audi is aimed more for a poser type, BMW aim at the driver. Something i read recently in an article comparing the 123D coupe and new Audi TT diesel.
A sentiment i agree 100% with
thanks and hope you enjoy my rview

Do you think that any of the things that make this a good car would have been enhanced by a fixed roof? Would something be lost? Well, apart from it no longer beeing a hairdesser's car anymore...

One remap, upgraded fuel pump and uprated dump valve will take this car to 355hp. So for a grands worth of mods you get a seriously quick car.

Standard vs standard the TT-S coupe is quicker around the hockehim race track than the bmw 335i and they both post pretty much identicle quarter mile lap times.

But on the streets the 335i is going to have the advantage, thanks to the wonderful turbo engine. Top on that you can transport two streetgirls in the backseat

I dont think the 335i will have and advantage on the streets unless you are a supremely skilled driver, but to even take the 335i neat the limits on the streets would be dangerous, foolish and will make you loose your license. Most people will be quicker in the AWD car and if its wet the BMW wont stand a chance. And england is wet for most part of the year

Re: Test drove the New Audi TTS - 08-12-2008, 04:50 PM

Is the TTS turbo charged?

335i develop 400nm between 1300 rpm to 5500 rpm. What about the TTS?

EDIT: Answer: 350nm between 2.500-5000 v/min

Yes turbocharged. TT-S is lighter though, and cheaper. To what BHP does the 335i remap to?

btw read this lol

Oh and you can have the 3 streetgirls, I will stick with the 1 girl that is hotter than your three combined because women will prefer the TT-S

Nah, too many pages, 11 eleven pages. Besides they seem to discuss 335d. And the thread is locked, probably too many Audi boys taking it wrong.

Not at all, its people who are sick and tired of BMW boys thinking that a remapped 335D is the best car in the world.

What do you expect will happen when 335D drivers say they beat Evo 9 FQ 360 all whilst still getting 50 mpg.
