The unfound critisism of this car is completely ridiculous now I have been inside and driven one...

| | Personal Review... BMW 750Li I would like to begin with saying that yes I am a BMW fan but I will try my utmost to maintain the integrity of this review. Firstly, WOW. I was sitting in my house waiting for my ride and i notice a big, black bold and simply eye catching vehicle turn into my driveway. Did someone say the 7 series has presence. It was black and waxed and looked a million bucks. It was stunning, i fail to see how it can be called a ugly car. It has the most road presence of every car in its sector. This is one of my personal favourite pictures of the car.
I straight away went to the rear and to my great surprise it was fine.. looked perfectly fine. It might just be the black colour but all just looked brillaint in my eyes.
My next sight was having the rear door open automatically out with no sound and complete precession and i entered the back seat. The interior was beige white on black in a nice two tone set up. The interior was spectacular. For the first time i noticed the long strip of wood behind the rear seats which was a nice touch I had never knwon was there. Stupidly I didnt get a picture of this as i was to busy studying the drivers half of the interior.
The wood grain was a dark colour and highly glossed and easily gave of the essential luxury feeling that i expected. The seats were amazingly comfortable and calling them comfort seats makes pefect sense now. I am a massive fan of the headrests that moved in and out to wrap around the neck. A great comfort and safety feature.
Now we headed of down the road, a rough road i was sure and so smooth and quite was the drive that I checked to make sure it had not been resurfaced that day. No it had not. The 7 series was amazingly solid and balanced at whatever speed (Maz speed we reached was 110km/h roughly). The adaptive suspension makes the ride so smooth and comfortable and enjoyed talking to my partner in quite without been bounced around and hitting my head on the roof of the car. My partner is far from a car fanatic but even she mentioned how smooth and quite it was when driving along the usually rough and loud highways of Australia.
The driver was going very easy and making the ride as comfortable as possible but still the car pulled with amazing ease and the engine was made the brillaint deep V8 burble that at one stage had the hairs on my next standing.
The ride was completely relaxing and the interior was a comfortable delight. The seats were comfortable for the whole trip and looking out at other cars I could not help but feel special. And thats the thing about the 7 Series, its an amazingly special car that is completely desirable. I would love to own one because it just so many things right. iDrive was easy to use in the back and to put it to the test I allowed my partner to use it and after 5 minutes (yes 5 minutes) she was using it it with relative ease.
I made sure i inspected and felt every type of material and everything was of high quality and well put together. My only gripe would be the piece of silver plastic running along the top of the doors, It should have been made from real metal.
In conclusion the car was amazing and i don't think you can truely appreciate the 7 Series until you have reviewed it for your self. It's an amazing car in my opinion and pictures do not do it justice. I would recommend the car to anybody...
I will be happy to answer any questions regarding the review or the car or my experience with the vehicle??? Don't be shy to ask either as a post or a personal message
Some additional pictures... I maintain that this is a car you have to see i person but it still looks great in these pictures i took with my phone... Thanks for the review, man. Good stuff.
The 7er might be old and needing replacement ASAP, but it's still doing good. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Tycoon For This Useful Post: | | | Fanatic

NP, my friend.
This car had a great impact on every single flagship from it's competitors...
It might be ugly in someone's eyes and people can bitch about iDrive as much as they want, but competitors followed the trend. | | | | | Moderator

Good review... The 750Li is a very luxurious car. I enjoyed driving this vehicle as well. Only the controls were a little complicated. Other then that it's a top notch car.
Doesn't need to be replaced in my opinion. | | | | | Fanatic

I didnt really find any of the controls difficult to use at all... the only one would be the lumbar support on the rear comfort seats but that only took a few minutes to work out otherwise everything else was quite simple | | | | | Fanatic

Well I test drove a pre-FL 745iL, with 30.000kms and just after a S500 W220 with 160.000kms.
The look: heavy, Americanised, inelegant. But a big presence. i don't like it. The interior, the rear space is well designed, the front less convincing. Not a big fan.
The finition is just awful for the category. Awful. The plastics are really not top notch, the buttons all look and feel cheap... Big schock. Even my bro, die-hard BMW-fan, admitted it was little disappointing. The phone-lugage made horrible noises when you tried to open or close it... the moving parts, luggage spaces, all feels cheap, light, fragile. The seat controls are made for people with at least 5 articulations on the arm. Honestly, a 3er is ten times better finished. My bro had an e46 330i at this time, it was no comparison.
Then the iDrive. Honestly...no problem at all. It is brilliant. Some functions hard to find, but overall it ias absolutely brilliant.
The ride: the car was fitted with Adaptive Drive. Comfortwise, too much little trepidations. And not smooth enough for a limo like that I found. Of course very comfortable, but I waited more.
It however really felt like a much much smaller car, not like a heavy 2tonner!!! it was almost nimble, very pleasant, surprising for a car that weight.
So, to sum it up... Drive almost like a 5er, in much more comfortable... Look like an American car, finished like an American car. And the ESP-light was on, on a 30.00kms 7er...
Then, the S-Class. 160.000kms on the clock.
The look: gracile, elegant, but not the same presence than the BMW. Much classier I find, not a big fan of the front lights.
The interior: very old-school compared to the BMW. But very pleasant.
The finition: wonderful... Not flawless though (doorpanels with hard plastic, cupholder not very stable...), but... Rich plastics, solid moving pieces, perfect buttons. Not a single parasit noise... The car felt like it was new.
The drive: much heavier than the BMW. Bodyroll, more vague steering. Did not have ABC, and lots of kms... But much more comfortable also. Smooth, isolated from the road...More convincing as a limo for me. The suspension is wonderful, perfect. When you pass a bump in the road, you do not feel anything; if the bump is big you barely hear the noise of the wheel on the bump, but never feel anything brutal. Don't try to make a time with it though; i suspect a car with less kms on the odometer would be a bit less heavy, but it clearly can't stand with the 7er on twisty roads. it is very relaxing, you just feel good in this car.
I much preferred the Merc. The feeling is wonderful, this suspension is perfect. And the finition of the BMW is just a shame.
The 7er manages to keep beeing a BMW, but the finition is a big problem.
The S-Class... the King for me. Feels special, so comfortable...You are good, relaxed, don't want to stop. Perfect. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to coolraoul For This Useful Post: | | | Review Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode | |
