Luw and Just_Me: I understand what you guys are talking about. Like I said, I haven't yet driven the 335i and also, there is no configurator for the new C-class on MB's site, so I can't compare those two yet. I compared the C with the 330 because I've driven that. I'll say this, if there is a 8-10k gap between a similarly equipped C350 and 335i, then I agree the 335 is probably the better choice. Quote:

Excellent review and very nice pictures. I am glad you liked the new C-Class. I've been seeing a lot of them lately and they turn my head everytime. Interestingly enough, the vast majority of W204s I see are Avantgarde / SPORT models!
I just hope the C350 and the other major engines get a power-boost soon - they need it because it looks good on paper when shoppers compare the C350 against other cars in its class which are already sporting over 300-horsepower.
Karma given. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to cawimmer430 For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor

Well they go on sale here today! Weather permitting I'm going to check them out.
Great review, it seems the car is a few tweaks aways from greatness.

| Yes, I have still to see one close up in the inside as well as already having seen the outside, but whilst I have yet to see one on the road, all the ones in dealers windows I've seen so far, have been the avantgarde model.
I do like.
A lot.
It also appears that unlike some car brands which attempt to dazzle with power/horsepower numbers and advertising spiel/spin, - as if that was the only thing that mattered in evaluating a car (which is probably the case as concerns brand fanboys, certainly a good number of free riding motor journalists, and those more interested in 'test drives' and joyrides than actually having to own and pay for a new vehicle,) - that Mercedes are prepared to actually state some facts as regards some of the engineering details for comparison purposes as regards quality and safety.
I see for instance that 70% of the new C Class is built using the latest high tensile strength alloy steels; 20% is ultra-high strength alloy steel, and the remaining 10% is aluminium and plastic. And that the body panels are all hot zinc dipped/galvanised.
Unfortunately, for comparison purposes re facts as pertaining to quality and body strength, and thus safety and lonegevity, it is difficult, as other manufacturers seem to be rather shy when it comes to publishing such facts, other than the usual and considerably more pedestrian ones as regards power and speed figures, with which the aforesaid fanboys, freebie test drivers and free-loading car journalists seem anally retentively obsessed about.
I read on a car safety forum the other day, that a side impact into a pole, at circa 29kmh, without an side airbag will most definitely kill you, and even in the most competent vehicle as regards airbags etc, 80kph into an solid object will end your life, as the human body will not withstand the deceleration forces brought about by the impact - seatbelts, airbag or no airbag.
Kind of makes a nonsense of 'how fast does she go mate' stuff that motoring journalists and fanboys alike, seemingly obsess over, IMHO of course.
IMHO, with Mercedes, as with Rolls Royce in their Heyday, when asked how much power the Rolls put out, the answer was 'sufficient'.
I do like the look of the new C Class.
Very, very nice indeed.
Best Regards

John... | Bravo, Bravo, Bravo,
I doubt very much if anyone with, be it a C Class, Bmw 3er or A4 will be constantly driving on the limit, That's when the car which offers the best of both worlds i.e comfort and performance, makes a better personal buy.

I wouldnt pick the C-class in elegance trim, Im a sporty guy so its Avantgarde for me
If you choose C-class or 3-series it comes down to personal preferences. What one you think is the best , some other wont agree. Both are good cars and despite your choice you will be satisfied, you cant go wrong with either 3er or C-class. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Just_me For This Useful Post: | | | Aficionado

I'm never gonna race someone in a C-class or a 3er anyways. That's what M3 and C63 are for. As for me personally, I would take the C-class because of the refinement it offers over the 3er and most importantly it's comfort and looks. | | | | | Me for President

I dont buy a powerful car to race others, I buy one becuase I like it and becuase I can.
I happen to like the looks of E90 and I find BMW comfortable and they drive well and they are reliable enough. You pick the C-class thats fine but dont expect me to do the same There is a reason why Audi/bmw/MB sell cars, becuase they are all damn good cars and there is one for everyones taste. http://www.germancarzone.com/member-...tml#post216178 (2008 Mercedes Benz C350 Sport) | | | | |
