I absolutely agree with you there Tine - the S600L is the "baby Maybach" - Mercedes would only be competing with themselves, potentially damaging the prestigeous position of the S class and confusing matters if they were to make a smaller Maybach IMO - Maybach need to be kept exclusive, in an entirely different league to the S class, or else things will just become awkward and messy - a bit like what is happening at VAG - with The Phaeton and A8, or The Golf and A3 - everything is crossing over into the others territory

Mercedes Benz is too smart to canabalize it's own models.
imo they shouldnt make a lower class car than the 57.. its just pointless
now they should concentrate on a coupe.. and then a cab..
and by then the 57 and 62 will be in for a Fl.. and the story goes on and on..

I agree. A cheaper Maybach sedan isn't going to solve Maybach's problems. The 57S is a step in the right direction. Now they need huge Coupe and Cabrio like Bentley and Rolls have. Something that doesn't look anything like a Mercedes-Benz.
The S65 and the proposed Maybach 53 would be too close in price.

Ha! What are you talkin' about? Benz has such a sprawling product range at the moment there's not a vehicle in their range that isn't eating another vehicle's lunch. Not that it's bad thing - choice is good, or at lest, exciting for guys like us to marvel at.
