I think that benz is just being stupid with this. Honestly, they need to make a whole new designgroup for the maybach, lock their asses up in a room and tell them to design a car that looks totally different then any mercedes car available today, and if they don't then some big german dudes are going to pull out their nails one by one. That should solve the problem because maybachs are great cars it's just their styling that sucks...its too damn similar to the former S class...they seriously need to design from scratch.

Exactly! AMG got to do their own engine that shares nothing with other Mercedes engines, time to do the same with the next generation Maybach designs. This might be a few years away though, like 2010 or so. Benz doesn't have the cash for this type of project right now.

That said I still want a 57S.

This could be a very good opportunity for Maybach - a competitor for the Bentley Flying Spur - Maybach could get a lot of sales in that market.

This could be both good and bad. The S600 is like $25,000 cheaper than the
Bentley Flying Spur. If Maybach produces a 53 sedan I can imagine it would be a more expensive than the Spur.

Following how Maybach has positioned itself as a hyper-luxury brand, we should expect a coupe to be easily priced in the neighborhood of $300k or more.

I think right now the bean counters at DC are wondering weather or not this would be a smart move. Maybach needs life pumped into it for the sake of mindshare and long-term goals and an outrageous coupe might do the trick. On the other hand - there's a very small pie to fight over at the top of the market, so perhaps they'll chose to watch RR go it alone and see what kind of response they can eke out of the world's billionaires.

Yep I agree with that Osna. A coupe version would be nice for Maybach. I wouldn`t sit around for Rolls to make the first moves though. Maybach needs to make a good impression ASAP.
