Another new Maybach 57S roadtest, this time by Edmunds. - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER 'Bach or boat? Decisions, decisions…
Maybach representatives regularly back away from comparisons to other automobiles such as the similarly massive Rolls-Royce Phantom or the slick new Bentley Continental Flying Spur. Rather, Maybach says it considers motor yachts and personal aircraft as the primary competition of the plain-Jane 57. Uh huh.
With the 57 S, Maybach doesn't have to play coy anymore. Thanks to its fantastic engine and uncompromising, feature-laden interior, the 2006 Maybach 57 S is better than those other two cars, and anything else in its segment. So, Maybach, shut up about the yachts and kick some Rolls-Royce arse already.

Excellent review Marcus, I really want one. I agree with the writer about the carbon fiber - I would choose not to have it either, preferring all the wood to be the Black piano wood instead.
I think comparing this car directly with a Rolls-Royce Phantom is pointless - the Phantom is undeniably a better limousine than the Maybach 57 but this 57S is designed to crush the Arnage T - and it completely achieves that.
Maybach may find far greater success in this segment than trying to out-do Rolls-Royce at their game.
I now just can't wait to see what Bentley replace the Arnage with - let the battle begin. | | | | | Contributor

Yeah I want one now myself. I've become quite a "fan" of this most special Maybach. The only thing I worry about is price. I hope they have one at Detoit in 2 weeks when I'll be there.

I try to save the Mercedes section until last because I'll spend the most time there. This year I'm going on two days because it always seems like I miss something when I get home and see the magazines coverage of the show.

Great article bum-man ...I struggled with it [the German language] for a while, then finally used a translator. Is it true they only sold 25 Maybachs in Germany last year? .....not selling too well then. | | | | | Executive
