The Maybach is actually a very discrete car which is because of it's highly anonymous design that is very late-90s. It's absolutely not a head turner unless it's a MM 57S dressed in black. Unlike the Phantom it's a car you buy because it has the most comfortable backseat in the entire automotive industry, the Phantom on the other hand is for those want to make a statement. | | | | | Fanatic

"Discrete?" You got to be kidding me. When MB decided to roll out the world's first yacht on wheels discretion wasn't on the agenda. | | | | | The Following 2 Users Say Thank You to Osnabrueck For This Useful Post: | | | Expert

Well the bland design certainly doesn't jump at you like the Phantom or Anagre that look like Buckingham Palace on wheels. The car looks much like a pimped up w220, in traffic they roll around here almost unnoticed except for long ass 62 version.
They say beauty comes from within. Inside it's more ostentatious and superfluous than a diamond encrusted Damien Hurst art work. Very pompous and excessive on the inside. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to Centurion For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor

Maybe one day I'll pick up a used 57, when their prices come down to "regular" Mercedes territory.

They're possibly the most comfortable car on the road today.
They're not beautiful, but understated and handsome. You get the feeling that if you drove it in San Francisco it wouldn't be keyed immediately | | | | | Contributor

I like their interiors too, but they're outdated now, but not in a good way like say an Arnage or Brooklands. The more I look at the 57S though I still wouldn't mind having one in that fanatasy garage we often post about. Black with the White leather interior with carbon fiber or piano black trim would be hot IMO.
I really hope Mercedes has something exciting in store for this brand before giving up on it.

Some rumors from Mclaren P10 @ Carspyshots: Maybach are currently wrapping up the final stages of early development of there new sportscar. This car was originally planned as uber SL-Class 2+2 model, but Maybach has codenamed this project as SSK. Recent rumors suggest that Maybach could very well be planning a couple of different engines everything form a twin-turbo direct injection V-12, a twin-turbo direct injection V-10, and even a possible direct injection V-16 for there next generation of luxury saloons and coupes. As I have heard it as of late Maybach's next generation of models could share plenty of technolgy with Aston Martin/Lagonda. | | | | | The Following User Says Thank You to The Artist For This Useful Post: | | | Contributor

Speaking of Maybach, this is ridiculous. I dropped my car off yesterday to have my winter shoes put on and to check out a rattle underneath somewhere and while waiting for my loaner (C300) to be brought around, a M57 comes in the service entrance.
Get this...this guy has a SLR, M57 (the one the came in), M57S and a M62S. I nearly fainted. No way would I have more than one Maybach, if I had one at all!!!! Secondly *** does this guy do? The service people usually put the finished cars outside until the owner shows up, but they brought his inside of course, a blue with cream interior 57.

Sounds good, but a little too much IMO. A 16-cylinder engine isn't going to happen anywhere outside of VW/Bugatti, at least not for a many a years. I think Maybach should have their own V10 while Mercedes keeps the V12s, but the V12 is more prestigious so that would be kinda backwards.
That said I can't wait to see what they (and Aston) have in store. Going to be some crushingly good cars IMO. They have to be. When things get better I want Daimler to buy Aston-Martin. AM is too gorgeous to be single.
