In the grand scheme of things, interest generating products like the 62s are a drop in the bucket and a great value for a companies' bottom line. It's like giving the product a facelift without actually having to go through the trouble and expense of shaping new lines and revamping hardware.

Something similar happens in the world of high-priced wristwatches where "limited special editions" are released that consist of nothing more than a refinished dial and a display back. The product will get some press coverage and folks will be mildly interested. Heck - look at us! We're discussing Maybach. All it took was a lil' performance boost, a new nameplate and some nifty tailpipes. Not like a bespoke interior on a Maybach is special, right? They're all bespoke for cryin out loud!

Probably not, but with a pissed off Maybach owner and cops around, I didn't want to risk getting into trouble.

Re: Maybach 62 S Unveiled

still Osna, you do make a good point here, and God nows i fancy highe end watches though i have a lowly tag on my wrist now
but the maybach as a project, as expectations and as a full package HAS failed
this regains some luster, bu not enough to justify anything
i would much rather a gutsy and ballsy decision to kickoff a replacement project and give something worthy of the name and the price tag or just axe the whole damn thing
i don't think its is worth injecting anymore resources in it.
there are things much mroe valuable to do
and the fact it's not a mercedes per se does not fully shine on the whole range

Yeah if like it half done. One seat, and no full recliner like the Maybach. Typical Lexus if you ask me, a poor knockoff of the original.

true the 57S nudged sales a bit, but i cannot keep wondering if profits ar not offset by the added cost
take a look at the switchgear and wood, this car is overpriced when it comes to some aspects of quality technology and design, it has little if any point over its chief rolls and Bentley competitors which have managed the not so easy task of separating their over all design from the efects of temporal advance

is the car better than the standard 62? maybe but doesn't it render the 62 pointless? i mean at this level a 20G-40G more or less is nor real difference

i cannot but have a feeling that money could have been far better spent in much more useful projects by MB that to attept to regain the luster on such a project, that i dare not describe as a miserable failure
I agree that this isn't going to save Maybach, but you said that the 57S gave Maybach sales a boost? Do you have any numbers on this, I've been dying to know if the 57S indeed made a difference?

I still can't help but think this and the 57S is what both Maybachs should have been in the first place. Even the oddly proportioned 62 looks better with the new grille/wheels.

Re: Maybach 62 S Unveiled

i don't have solid numbers, i just remember reading it either here or on WCF that demand grew a bit for the 57S after launch, nothing dramatic
any google whizz can look it up

the maybach per se shuld have been way different form the beginning

Hence the "at a cheaper price", obviously they did not recreate every feature they could, maybe because of possible expenses but they've done a pretty good job in my opinion. Each his own.

I think because they've already poured so much money into in the past, it would make no economic sense to scrap the 'whole damn thing', and more sense to pour a (relatively) miniscule amount more in to, as previously stated, reignite interest, add sales and therefore justify and offset the initial investment into the 'Maybach' brand.

Well - just like other "special edition" products, this is cheap press and typical of the ultra-luxury playbook. It works too. It easy to imagine that a few sultan-types took one look were sold.
