Re: [New York Times] Lexus LS 600h - Conspicuous Consumption With Green Illusions

It's embarrassing and questionable why Lexus made such a MISTAKE with the LS600h, especially when it clearly doesn't deliver on the promised / predicted MPG. I suppose they are riding on the image that most people seem to think that hybrids deliver good fuel economy in all situations - when their clear and only advantage is in an urban environment with a lot of stop-and-go-traffic. Lexus fanboys can talk about low emissions all they want, this car is still a gas-guzzler at the end of the day, especially outside the urban environment.

I don't see any reason to take this over an LS460 (well maybe because the LS600h has a leather dashboard! WOW! <---- Sarcasm intended...).

Give me a standard LS460 anyday. At least that car doesn't pretend to be something it's not and it can still haul 400 kg of load capacity as compared to the pathetic, ultra-embarrassing 200 kg the LS600h can haul!

Where diesels aren't applicable (my country), a hybrid is the next best alternative.

But I do agree, this hybrid nonsense is really just talk.
