Lamborghini is slowing down sales. - 12-12-2006, 10:19 AM

After a big 20 per cent jump in sales last year, it wants to see a slowdown in the number of cars it sells over the next 12 months. Chief Executive Stephan Winkle-mann explained: "We are aiming to protect the mystique of the brand." California, which includes LA, is its single biggest market.

You know, these carmakers always say they have limited production, but I've never ever heard of anyone being told 'too bad!' when they want to order one of these cars.

That's true, maybe they want to clear up waiting times

I suppose it depends on how long the owner is willing to wait for the automobile to be made, I remember hearing when the 612 Scaglietti came out the waiting list was two years (!) long. I know Lamborghini has already sold out two years worth of LP640 so the Gallardo waiting list is probably huge too.

So I guess 'limited production' actually means that the length of the waiting list. The longer the waiting list, the more limited the production (ceteris paribus). Limited production gives the impression that potential buyers might never get their car.
