A surprise from Lamborghini at Geneva? - 02-15-2006, 03:22 AM

Our french friends at Le Blog Auto let us know that Stephan Winkelmann, Lamborghini CEO, said that "there will be a nice surprise for visitors to the Geneva Auto Show".

If the nice surprise is just the European premiere for the Miura Concept, we'll be a bit disappointed. We hope it's something a bit more substantial, but declarations like "we're a small business and we can't immediately build all models that we'd like to" and "we don't intend selling too many Lambos"" non lasciano molto posto per voli di fantasia.

The most down-to-earht hypothesis is the rear-wheel drive Gallardo, to differentiate it from the Audi R8, but it might be a Q7-based LM 00x SUV or an Espada 2+2 coupè (in the sketches), which is less likely because of the high development costs associated with a front-engined Lamborghini.

So then maybe it'll be an Espada-esque concept as per the pic you posted Yannis.

My bet goes to a RWD Gallardo. Less chances there are about a Lambo SUV (LM) concept.

Nah, reality aside, wouldn't you say that back-to-back releases of first the concept Miura at Detroit and now the concept Espada at Geneva would be so slick and tres chic? I feel that such action would constitute a design tour-de-force on Lambo's part.

Probably won't happen - it's way too cool to be a reality.

Screw the SUV and as for the RWD Gallardo who really cares; AWD makes the current car brilliant anyway.

I find it extremely difficult for them to have developed 2 concepts at the same time. Developing a concept can be very time consuming and there must be a purpose like a good chance of production. Since we saw Miura concept not long ago i guess Espada is now out of the question.

Wasn't Miura just a mock-up though? Just to test the waters? Nowadays with CAD, digital to clay model to mock-up is pretty quick I hear...

Nevertheless, like I said, no matter how reality pans out, it would've been perfect for Lambo to show a concept of the Espada too...

Yes you are right but i know that Audi concepts are very functional and not fake. I assume the same goes for Lambo.
