Honda has lifted the lid on its replacement for the S2000! The small two-seater makes its world debut as a concept at the British Motor Show, and features the latest hybrid technology.
It joins the CR-Z hybrid and FC-X Clarity hydrogen fuel cell vehicle on the stand at ExCeL.
The car has a flowing design that doesn’t only look good, but is highly aerodynamic – in turn boosting performance and cutting CO2 emissions.
It also fits the ‘clean and dynamic’ brief that Honda applied to the project. The headlights are integrated into the front end and sweep up to look like part of the body.
This theme continues inside, with long curves from door to door that frame the dashboard instruments. The dash layout resembles that of the Civic hatchback, with important instruments in the driver’s line of sight, while the seats and doors are trimmed in blue and white leather.
To highlight the new car’s sporting intentions, the lever for the semi-sequential transmission is placed close to the driver on the dashboard, and there are paddleshifters mounted on the steering wheel, too. A starter button sits on top of the shifter.
The model would slot into the range beside the CR-Z small sports hybrid, which is confirmed for dealers.
What’s more, the show car fuels speculation regarding a production version of the long-awaited replacement for the S2000. The roadster is the last remaining rear-wheel-drive model in the Honda line-up, but a roadgoing version of the concept would drop that layout in favour of front-wheel drive.
