How come all Japanese manufacturers are suddenly overdesigning their new sedans???

Competition in smaller car segments is getting more intense. European car companies use a lot more daring designs (i.e. Scirocco), Koreans are flooding the market with new models while they hire European designers and American manufacturers are also introducing smaller cars. The only way for the Japanese car companies to cope with the new situation is to stand out and that's what they are doing. Unfortunately that can sometimes lead to overdesigning.

This car kind of makes me appreciate that Honda's are conservatively styled...

I think it is the E65 factor, better be ugly and get noticed than pleasing and not get noticed - which is pretty much what happened to the previous RL. Where as previous TL had a modicum of personality and it was a success and now they are going all out.

BTW that steering wheel looks a lot like the X5/X6 one.

Hmm...I like most of the interior, but that gear selector looks just rubbish.

I think you all are being very nice in calling this car "overdesigned" for it is simpy hideous at best.

I'm sorry to say taht the carr looks cheap, both interior- and exterior-wise, for even a Honda... let's not even talk about Acura.

Re: New Acura TL Thread - 08-10-2008, 02:24 PM

This has to be the worst looking car I've yet seen from Honda/Acura. They're trying to hard and they've really gone overboard with the grille and rear end. Just plain ugly.
