No doubt, it's got some handsome proportions already and I doubt that it'll be rubbish to drive. Still, there's something to be said for the almost universally unheralded NSX that made it such a people's champion.

Will I be disappointed with this car? Heck no? Do I rather it were a lightweight, high-revving, mid-engined Audi R8 competitor and less of an LF-A / GT-R type recipe? Unequivocally, yes.

NSX reported to have lapped the ring in 7:37. I think there is war brewing in Japan.

Update: Our spy photographers have been busy tracking the new Honda NSX prototype at Germany’s Nurburgring test track and have managed to hand time the car with some stunning results. In this early phase of testing the new NSX is already doing lap times of 7:38m, not far off some of the best official times ever recorded at the circuit. The time was achieved with some traffic on the circuit, but it’s not possible to judge how it affected the run.
The photographers also managed to get a shot of the interior. There’s not much to see, but one thing is certain, this car is being operated with paddle shifters located behind the steering wheel. With an expected 2010-2011 release date, the new NSX is therefore likely to be powered by a dual-clutch gearbox.

Designers were sent back to the drawing board and Honda was forced to abandon its original plans to show the car at the following Tokyo Motor Show.
Despite the drawbacks, engineers were able to continue testing the new mechanicals for the car by using a modified S2000 body and we saw the first test-mules running laps at the Nurburgring by the middle of last year. The latest round of spy shots suggest Honda has come up with a final design for the car, as seen by this latest prototype once again spotted at the Nurburgring in Germany that’s very likely to be the replacement for the legendary Honda supercar.
Speaking with - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER back in April, Acura spokesman Mike Spencer confirmed several details of the upcoming NSX replacement. The car will definitely be powered by a V10 engine, and it will be equipped with the company’s SH-AWD system. The lack of intakes at the - ONLY REGISTERED AND ACTIVATED USERS CAN SEE ALL LINKS - CLICK HERE TO REGISTER also confirms the NSX replacement will feature a front-engine configuration, as opposed to the mid-engine layout of the former.
There has been some discussion of a possible four-wheel steering system (4WS) for the NSX replacement, but Spencer suggested the SH-AWD system would achieve most of the benefits of 4WS without the added complexity.
The NSX replacement is now expected to arrive sometime in 2010 as a 2011 model with final pricing expected to be revealed closer to the car’s release date.

Are we witnessing Honda, Toyota and Nissan mount a challenge to the Europeans in the sports car segment?
How will Germans and Italians respond- or will they respond at all considering the price of fuel?

Honda/Acura NSX Spy Video

We first caught sight of the full Honda/Acura NSX Prototype about 10 days a go, and ever since we have wanted to hear the beautiful melody of the front-engined V10 GT-R killer. Various amateur clips have been floating around youtube over the past few days, but only high quality content makes it onto WCF. Fortunately German magazine Auto Motor und Sport have met our high standards with the production of a spy video of the new NSX powering round Nurburgring. We highly advise watching all 3 minutes and 19 seconds of the video, but it is strongly recommended a clean pair of trousers is on hand – the sound of the engine is awesome!

Even though still in its early stages of development, it has been reported the NSX has already managed a lap time of just 7 minutes 37 seconds leaving it just 8 seconds behind its chief rival, the Nissan GT-R. With two more years of development left before the full production model is unveiled, it wouldn't be too demanding to expect this model break the 7min 20second barrier, but only time will tell.

As for the NSX, damn Honda's got their work cut out since Nissan/Nismo produced an awesome GT-R...and Toyota are busy working on the Supra's successor as well as a Lexus supercar.

I agree with bum-man... looks like the L-FA's twin sister. Exciting times ahead!

Wow so we are going to have no less than 5 "supercars" from Japan in the near future.

LF-A
NSX
Supra
IS-F
GT-R

I cannot wait to see the Italian & German response.

^ We're not expecting a Supra are we? Isn't the LF-A the only supercar we're expecting from the stable of Toyota?

The IS-F is hardly a supercar in as much as the BMW M3 isn't one either. Oh and the IS-F is, in any event, playing catch-up with the likes of the M3, C63 and even discontinued RS4. So no response in this area need be forthcoming from Germany.

I think Toyota will do something based on the FT-HS concept, but I don't think it will be called Supra.

Yep, thats pretty much how it goes. That lag between drawing board and market launch is a B. Products dreamed up during good/happy times seem out of sync 3-4 years later if the previous reality has changed.
