I don't like Volvo, i like BMW... Simple as that.

Now there is no doubt as to which CAR I'd pick, but if the discussion is about roof design then I find the Volvo to be superior. The BMW however is the better car overall for sure. The Volvo is just another nice Volvo which doesn't cut it when it comes to actual driving.

Edscha / BMW managed to design a metal folding roof that finally doesn't look bulbous.

Eg. all the 2-piece CC roofs look bulbous (Peugeots, Renaults, SLK etc), so after announcing 3-piece roofs I expected the design will be more elegant & less bulbous. And even these roofs were not what I expected (eg. Eos, Focus CC, Astra CC, C70). Of course - they were all designed & supplied by OAsys / webasto.

Now finally BMW & Edscha have designed great looking 3-piece metal folding roof.

The problem with OAsys solution is that the roof sits so high on car's shoulder & car's rear end sits very high. That makes the car lookin goofy.

IMO E93 roof (and overall) design is much better that other 3-piece roff designs. It looks much better integrated & much more glamurous with the the squared & linear roof look ... It reminds me of Rolls-Royce 101EX profile.

Personally I think the Volvo line looks more like a coupe, while the E93's is a hybrid between a coupe's and a sedan's roofline.





Plus the Volvo's roofl has a much more fluid line.

I find there is something very strange about the 3 series side window, the C70's roof looks better in my opinion.

They don't care. They didn't want a car that looked like the hat of Charlie Chaplin. It's low and flat like they wanted it to be.
