Germany's Auto Motor und Sport finally did it, a comparison between the BMW M5 and the Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG. 507-hp vs 514-hp. Munich vs Stuttgart.








The article below emphasizes Mercedes AMG's new strategy: bigger displacement for more torque and higher reving capabilities.




The performance sheet. Highlighted are the following (in order): horsepower, weight, 0-62 mph and 0-125 mph. The M5 is the lighter car at 1835 kg. The E63 AMG weighs nearly 2-tons. The M5 has the better 0-XX ratings, but looses out to the E63 AMG in midrange power.




Bottom lines.



1st Place: Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG - The power of the new V8 leaves you breathless. The E63 AMG doesn't lack dynamic handling. Impressive, the comfort. The E63 is an allround talent.

2nd Place: BMW M5 - The M5's V10 lacks the punch of the E63 AMG in midrange acceleration, but the V10 impresses as the purist sportscar engine. In handling, the M5 is sportier. The transmission is something one has to get used to, and in comfort, the M5 lags behind.

you got to be kidding me, thats the worst time I ever seen for the M5 to 200km/h and its even worse for E63. Where they sleeping while driving?

anyway, M5 still seem to be the sportier choice so M5 is my choice

A lot of wrong numbers there, but if they prefer E63 over M5, i have no problems with that. I was expecting the E63 to be hard to beat and this proves it. Congratulations, MB. Finally a product from AMG to go sholuder to shoulder with M...

Still, the magic that comes out from Munich is my choice...

Here's the person who testdrove both cars and achieved these performance times.

They spoke of both cars favorably. The E63 AMG won because of the "overall balance", that means it is slightly more practical than the M5, just slightly. If they compared sport, the M5 would win hands down.

Either way, I keep saying this: both cars don't really compete against each other. The M5 buyer is totally different from the E63 customer.

If everyone would think so...

If only. But magazines ain't helping this concept if they keep comparing these cars against each other. You should see how the KIDS on Autospies think they know it all just because this magazine said this and that.

Why bother? Don't give a $h!t what Autospies's kids think about it or anyone. What's for sure, these two boys and the 3rd one coming (RS6) are the products from Germany at wich all car makers can only stare and cry... Hehe, suckers! German Power all the way!
