notice the s4 beat the 335 by more than the car and drivers....car and driver put every option on the car...except the sticky 255s. In this test the braking beat the 335 by 2 feet, vs. the other rags reverse finding, as well the acceleration times were more convincing of a win in this test.

335 got 20 points on price....lucky it made some gains somewhere.

Thank You Edmunds! Finally someone has actually observed that the 3 series is not the Holy Angel that everyone believes it is...I would have preferred to see the C-class do it, but the A4 will do just fine. I've waited so long for this moment ever since the G35 beat in a few years ago. I can finally have a good night sleep for once.

Lol, you sound like, as a child someone shoved a 3 series exhaust pipe up the wrong hole (not that there is a right hole for shoving exhaust pipes). But I am happy you can at last put that behind you get your good night's sleep.

This is my favourite class and I've driven almost all the 3er, C and A4 with almost all engines and body types.. so.. I can say there is something Holy in this particular BMW. The competitors.. hmm I cannot call them competitors. BMW 335i performance with BMW power boost or the new one with a single turbo will do the job for me. The 3er is just an amazing car I preffer it over every other BMW I've owned including the M5 if it's M3. Mine was only 318d for daily use but I cryed when those bastards stole it and it's the car I'll always love. Forever in my heart Lubima.
That car is just too much inside me to stand what HoH is saying sorry a bit too emotional maybe...

Yeah, I agree to 100%. The S4 is a looker, but yet e bit boring. And still it looks better then the E90. But hey, let's be proud cause these both cars are really amazing!

It's a bit stupid to compare standard top-engined 3er (335i) with special version of A4 (=S4). Not the same class.

Why not comparing S4 to M3 then instead?

Yes, M3 is just that above S4 than S4 is above 335i. Not comparable.

Interesting (and only fair - also price wise) comparison will be S4 vs 335i with full PerformanceParts options + Power kit (20HP & 50Nm more). Still waiting for such test.

PS: I still understand why some of you think of LEDs as something utterly modern? I thougjt only kids have obssesion with tiny bright lights like LEDs ... But obviouls boys will be boys forever.

Come on guys , if there is one thing 335i beats the S4 with, its the design. Best looking car in the segment particulary with performance kit.

There goes the GCZ BMW committee right on schedule. How can anyone dog the "Precious & Holy" 3 series? Something must be wrong...they must be child like to talk against such a car!

I am hard on the 3 series because it deserves it. This is not me just "hating" on the car. I've actually driven the current 3 series and was not blown away at all. Ever since I joined GermanCarFans (Before most of you even knew the website even existed) there has been post after post of how glorious the 3 series was. Like it was the next best thing since the invention of the hamburger. A few years ago I decided to try the car out, see if BMW was really worth all the attention that its fans give it.

So I go to this BMW event out in Maryland and they let me drive the 3 series (along with a few others 5 series, 7 series etc.). The car handling was decent and drove fairly well, but it was no "huge" difference from my friends Mazda 3 sport. Yes, the luxury features were nice, especially the clock window reflection. Other then that it performed just like any other entry level sedan. I saw no reason in this world how Car and Driver could call it a 10 best or for it to win every comparison test. Matter of fact I was even less impressed with it compared to the G35 I tested. Only thing I can say is that it handled a little better then the "previous" C-class. I will give it that.

It seems as though Journalist want to keep up a trend that any comparison test the 3 series is in it should win. From what I felt, that should not have been the case at all. I just appreciate Edmunds and Motor Trend (a few years ago) standing up and actually noticing that the 3 series is not "All that".

Then again, if you want to believe that the 3 series is the king of the world good for you. But as HighestOfHigh (A veteran known for speaking his mind not busy trying to make online buddies and not sticking with what's popular), I have an obligation to tell the truth.

Now in all fairness, I will say that the "current" 5 series was OUTSTANDING and it handled far better then the "previous" E-class (I have not driven the new one). I was impressed with every aspect of that vehicle except for the design. So I'm not BMW hating, just putting the 3 series on the spot.

The new S4 seems to be quite a car. Kudos to Audi!

Love the colour on the S4, is that Imola Yellow?

+1 on the E90 looking dated compared to the S4.
