It's the dinosaur effect, the last time we saw it was when BMW presented the E90, overnight the W03 C-Class and B6 A4 went from Natalie Portman to Dolly Parton.

Design wizards at Mercedes mos certainly didn't expect this and might be back on the drawing broad. That is if they don't want the SLK's 10 years reign to come to an absurd halt.

The E89 Z4 just rules, is has no bad point, may be the engines could have been the latest versions, but even with that, they are just great. Mercedes has to do a very good work with the next SLK to surpass the Z4 this time.

I don't like the new Z4: it looks really heavy.
But I don't like the SLK, either: it looks really feminine.

So I'll vote for the Z4, because it's undoubtedly the better of the two. But I can't see myself driving either of them (while the Z3 and SLK first gen looked gorgeous).

^ The Z3 probably is the most feminine car BMW has ever made (with the Isetta perhaps), but whatever

So u think the current SLK is feminine and the old one is not?..IMO the old one was seriously feminine while the new one is more masculine and edgy especially when kitted with AMG cladding.

Well, The Z3 looks feminine but it has masculine (phallic?) proportions (look at the bonnet...). And it had really delicious curves... it was not only soft, but also curvaceous (the side, the bonnet, everything, yummy!)

The first SLK didn't look feminine. The current one has way softer lines, the older one had that typical MB-rigidness. Its lines were straight and clean. The current SLK is very feminine, but tries to look a bit more massculine (F1-nose), it's not my taste.

This isn't even a fair comparison... IMO the SLK never really measured up to the Z4 at any generation and at any point in time, so comparing it to the new Z4 is just mean. I really hope MB gets it right for the next SLK.

If they go for a mini SL they will be fine, for sure.
