The 335 is a really quick car, and it got stripped here totally!

And you Beemer fanboys, don't come here with your "it had the wrong tyres" explanations Take your hats off!

The 335i has less power, less torque, RWD etc…! Absolutely great to see the S4 beat the BMW in this disciplin!

Nevertheless I would more like the 3-series…just because in terms of design!

And it had that also when it kicked the previous gen S4:s ass

Before you Audi fanatics get too excited, let's get some perspective here. And remember, I think I'm one of the most "balanced" GermanCarZone fans here, as my wife and I enjoy cars from each of the 3 major brands.....(one day, I will have a Porsche!!!.....LOL).

The new S4 does perform better than the B6/B7 S4, and that should be expected. However, the difference overall is not night and day. The major problem is Audi's pricing of the whole A4 line (at least here in Canada).

The A4 2.0TFSI (211HP) is priced similarly to the BMW 328 (230HP).
The A4 3.2FSI (265HP) is priced similarly to the BMW 335i (300HP).
The previous B7 S4 (340HP) was priced similarly to the CURRENT C63 and E90 M3.

Now, the pricing for the new S4 is not released yet, but do you guys see the problem here? Pricing wise, the 3.2FSI is the competitor to the 335i. Which means that unless the new S4's price is dropped SIGNIFICANTLY, it is a relative rip off if you are interested in performance. Because for the same money, you can spend your hard earned money to get cars like the IS-F, M3, or C63.

Prior to the B7 RS4, the B6/B7 S4 was Audi's answer to the previous W203 C55 and E46 M3, which made sense, as they all had similar power outputs and price. Then the 335i made its debut and then suddenly, people said the S4 was the competitor to the 335i, which never made any sense to me. Sure, the RS4 was pitted against the older C55 and E46 M3 when it made its debut, but it was over $25000 CDN dollars more than the C55/M3.

And to this day, the pricing continues to support the fact that Audi's competitor to the 335i is the A4 3.2FSI, rather than than the S4.

So even though the new S4 is quite a car, I think it's performance may be only SLIGHTLY better to the previous C55 and E46 M3, while it is likely going to be priced in the range of the current C63, IS-F and E90 M3.

Remember, the currrent S5 (with the V8) is SLOWER around the Ring than the previous E46 M3 and C55 (according to Sport Auto and all on street tires).

I'm not a Audi hater......in fact, I love Audi Avant's .......but the S4's performance/dollar ratio is not good.

Here in germany, C 63 AMG is 18.000 € more expensive then the S4. Difference to the BMW 335i just about 8.000 € - with same equipement it is even less! Xenon, electric seats, leather, climatronic and the difference is just about 3.000 to 4.000 €!

The current S5 sells for $65900 in Canada. Therefore, I suspect the new S4 will be slightly cheaper. But it is definitely still in M3/C63/IS-F league.

The 335i sells for $48900, the E90 M3 sells for $69900, the C63 sells for $63500, and the IS-F sells for $65300 (all base prices).

That's why this business of comparing the 335i with the S4 never made any sense to me, other than saying that the 335i is one hell of a bargain given it's performance. And yes, you can get a 335xi for $51500 if you want AWD.

which gives us money to add the M-package for the 335i as well
Let's not forget ownership costs and insurance costs etc etc. Sure the S4 is more expensive than 335i in those areas as well.
