Audi S5 tackles BMW 335i

Quote:
Audi has always built brilliant motorcars. In terms of styling, cabins, finish and a good few other aspects, Ingolstadt, which is just 60km outside Munich, has the upper hand.
But get to dynamics and BMW has basically always had Audi covered. The four rings are often quicker in straightline acceleration tests but take to the track and an M3 is a second and a half quicker than an RS4 around Kyalami; an S6 V10 rumbled around the Midrand racetrack almost six seconds off an M5's pace; and a 330i was four seconds quicker around there than its Production Racing A4 3.2 quattro foe when both cars were driven in street spec. An exception however, is the S3, which has the 135i covered in that department with near identical Hot Lap results.
Which all underscores our belief that BMWs, in general, are wieldier than Audis on the road — which has more often than not plumped our comparison test decisions the way of the Munich carmaker….
That was also what we were expecting when it came to the subjects of this test — two stunning coupes that represent the latest battle in that ongoing Bavarian war.

Good job Audi...
I wonder how BMW respond, ie if they will bother to respond.

Why would they respond? becuase of one single test? doubtful , besides you know bmw is in crisis and have more important things to focus on for instance the PAS

No, there will certainly not be a response to this. No reason what so ever. At least not because of this test. What is iAfrica anyway? A motoring magazine?

Besides, Just_me is right, there is an ongoing BMW crisis - the most sporty thing comming from BMW the nest 10 years is a visual-only sports package for the MPV:s and SUV:s.

tii series is planned to fight Audi S series.

Yet I'm not sure it will be presented in this generation already.

335i is a "civil" car.

It's more like the opposite. BMW are earning a whole lot more money from the 335i then Audi are from the S5. Most due to perceived value. I can't deny my affection for the S5 but the 335i is an amazing ride for it's price tag.

The S5 is a quite civil car too, just because BMW does not dare to put limited slip differentials (and on many cases proper brakes and tires) on their non-M cars does not make the S-cars hardcore.

It is another story when, as in some markets, for instance the S5 based on price is dicrectly compared to the M3. Then we have a case of a hardish-core BMW against a very civil Audi.

Re: Audi S5 tackles BMW 335i

Yeah. The S models are by no means hardcore. They are just normal Audis with a little bit more punch, nice styling and some better components. They are by no means track cars or something for performance junkies.

335i vs. S5 ... then 335i definitely is more regular (civil) car than S5.

Think 335i with Sport package, and Performance parts as a direct rival to S5. Add a bit more horsepowers - and ... voila ... 3er tii

Tii = LSD (real), proper tires, high performance brakes and 326 hp?
