My vote goes to the E55 for 2 reasons, Its a monster on wheels, and its one of the most perfected automobiles till this day: great in all categories: awesome package with balance between design, driving experience and comfort, the E class in general is a very but very great car to own hands down...
And to add to this... one of the reasons why I'd not vote for the E55... is because in that same era, the BMW M5 (E39) roamed the world.

While it can't match the E55 in terms of sheer power, it's imo one of the best cars ever made. Sorry for taking another direction

True... how much money do you have to fork out to get it to 740hp though? The 335i can be done with a $400 ecu flash, exhaust and intake.

Well as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. Of course you're going to lay out more for a supercharged engine. It is the more expensive engine to begin with.

Just as much speed with far less fuel consumption. Spells "winner' in my book.

A 335i isn't going to match speed with an E55.

Actually I'm sure it could at least keep up. The 335i is one quick S.O.B.

Re: '08 BMW 335i vs. '04 MB E55 AMG

Actually it isn't even close. The E55 was a good 4.4 to 4.5 sec 0-60 car, the 335 is around 4.8 secs.

I'd say that's close enough. Most 335i's do better than that in the real world FYI.

Re: '08 BMW 335i vs. '04 MB E55 AMG

There is no way around it an E55 is faster than a 335i, real world or not. You can use standing start numbers, 5 mph roll-out, etc, a 335i will get dusted by a E55 in straight line each and every time. There is no contest there. The longer the run the smaller the 335i will get in the E55's mirror. Real world helps the E55 also. Handling of course is where the BMW would catch up, at the first curve.
