By all accounts Luw I would say that the GTS actually had the handling advantage. Look and the large gaps in acceleration between the two and the max speeds achieved on the Ring. I have no doubt that the time advantage of the X6 was made up by its swift acceleration.
Could also be related to the top speed difference.

If my memory serves me well, you don't have to get to the top speed before the governor kicks in. I believe it stops the engine from revving beyond a certain limit.
