You don't have to.

I wasn't addressing you at all.

Same was said for the LS when it came out.A new car will always have the spotlight for a few months.

It will take more than looking modern(IRL the S-Class is a very imposing and good looking car,i see one in white everyday.) to steal the crown from the S-class.

PS:Why is the 8-speed auto not standard on all 7's ?I believe the X-Drive 50i has it,so why doesn't the 750i ?

What crown? Best-selling-luxury-sedan crown?

That will never happen. S-class is an icon, and I guess it will remain sales & image leader in the segment forever. Just like eg. the 3er in it's segment.

The crown of being most comfortable & cozy yet still dynamic luxury sedan? That's S-class domain as well.

****

But in the "modern & trendy alternative to S-class" department F01 easily beats W221. As the E65 did with W220. But that was not the case with former 7er models (E38, E32) which were only a sportiest & more driver oriented alternative to S-class but not being more trendy & modern.

What E65 lacked was classy appearence - and that has changed already a bit with the FL, but with the F01 can be described as classy again - without compromising the avant-garde sporty dynamic image. Something original E65 failed - since it was avant-garde & innovative + controversial only. Not dynamic enogh, not sporty enough, not classy enough. With F01 these issues were successfully addressed. F01 is way better alternative to S-class any 7er ever was - incl the E65.

But saying that S-class dominance in this segment won't be lost. But be sure F01 will be the most successful 7er up to date.

Wait until you see & drive the car IRL.

I bet you'll change your mind.

To me complete ICM being based on FlexRay is enough to say DOS vs. Windows claim is true. It's like dial-up modem vs. DSL, if you like this comparison better.

Not to say F01 info system is completely WWW-compatible & connectable.

And some very interesting recognition systems are on board.

****

Until MB debuts something as complex as PRE-SCAN (or at least catch up with BMW ConnectedDrive systems) F01 will remain the tech leader.

To me DOS vs. Windows comparison is valid. Perhaps dil-up vs DSL, or 386 vs Pentium is better way to say it.

thanks eni for reply

but i remeber your posts erlier like a mounth or two back and you said that when we see the 7 it will make the s look like windows dos well we all seeing the 7 and it dont make the s look like do infact in someways i think even the facelfte current 7 looks better.

as for technology i agree the 7 is ahead in some ways then the s and yes it should be remebering its a new car by about3 years

but its still has a 6 speed gearbox and no sytsem like the presafe which is now old mb is using it a while

yes the 7 will have the best resolution pics and colors on the i drive screen and it has some really nice tech on the suspenssion and steering i like the new steering system i am shure it will handle as well as all bmws or even better

but u been saying this windows dos thing i really till now dont get it i really dont think the 7er is very futurastic in terms off design and technologies yes it has a few new things but nothing rerally ground breaking or to say that the w221 is dos compared to this ,,,my views

I really don't get it,what is modern about the 7 compared to the S?Apart from the exterior design,i see nothing.Technologically the S offers more or less what the 7 has come up with.

LOL come on rob, you can't even compare those pics.

I think the S really comes into it's element in person. It's graceful and epic. It seems 'nautical' to me for some reason. lol

Taking a completely left-field stab at the subjectivity of all of this:

If I were ever to be in the market for a car in this class between now and 45 years old - I'd probably choose the 7er. It appeals more to my misplaced sense of youth.

The S-Class continues to uphold the virtues of the elegant and classy - of which I am neither. Ruggedly handsome and sportingly gifted that I am (watcha laughing at ?) I think the 7er has more youthful appeal.

Still, that Merc cabin outclasses it for ambience and tranquility...

So in a way - yes, echoing EnI's perspective on the car; it may not ever be an S-Class beater but then again if it was - it wouldn't appeal as a BMW. It's still growing on me btw.
