^ Old Money -- it is such a snobbish term really. More often than not used to put down the recently rich.

It is total garbage that people who are born rich have better taste than those who make their own fortunes -- truth is, truly aristocratic taste is very rare these days -- most people are relatively easily satisfied with a bit of flash to show off their cash.

I think you are all nuts. The Rolls Royce is built to perfection. When I sat in one I couldn't beleive how well built it was. It was a bankvault if ever I have seen one. The Maybach, the Rolls Royce etc are all brilliantly put together. To say they are not is ridiculous I'm sorry. Go sit in a Rolls Royce if you don't believe. Certainly don't judge until you have. Who honestly believes a word a car reviewer types these days. Most of them are paid off when they write reviews anyway. It is a very corrupt business in my opinion.

Re: [Times Online] Maybach vs. RR Phantom: My land yacht is better than yours

I don't think anyone is criticizing the structural build-quality. It is the finish of the finer details -- the bits which require traditional craftsmanship that is lacking in both the Maybach and Rolls -- it is more obvious in the Rolls because of the way the natural materials are used. The Maybach's wood parts look like they are produced by machines (even though they are not) ...they completely lack any real sensorial quality.

The Rolls is a fantastically built machine ....but it certainly does not feel as carefully hand-crafted in the way the interior of the Bentley Arnage is (or Pagani Zonda for that matter)

I'd take a Brooklands over any of them. It smashes them both for my fantasy money.

See I would never waste that much money on a car anyway. I would prefer my 5 Series over every and any one of those ultraluxury vehicles. This miss the boat for me. Why can't we have an ultra luxury vehicle the size of the 5 Series? Do they have to be massive, heavy and look like barges?

Build quality is not as good as an Audi A8 or a VW Phaeton and owners would have every right to feel a little short-changed.

Phantom sub par to Phaeton regarding fit / finish???

This guy is either retarded, blind, or working for VAG. Or - all at once.

Eni you just can't accept anything that doesn't put a BMW AG product in the best light!

Suppose, just suppose the example they drove had some fit and finish issues? It does happen, even at this level.

I don't think anyone here believes that a Rolls-Royce in general or on average has poor fit and finish, but just the opposite.

Re: [Times Online] Maybach vs. RR Phantom: My land yacht is better than yours

The Maybach is a great idea but was a bit poorly executed. It offer something which the Rolls doesn't and that's the comfort and luxuries offered in a Gulfstream. You can't find any better rear seat comfort. That's why I hope that Mercedes don't place the Maybach brand back in it's coffin. It's truly a great car but needs to come in a more attractive package.

Here in London Phantoms are seen absolutely everywhere with the Maybach remaining as a rear sight. There is like 4-6 Phantoms for every Maybach here. Severly out numbered.
