Well, love this Mercedes taxi feeling!! Absolutely stunning engines!! Especially the 6-cylinder diesel! Would never buy a 4-cylinder (taxi-)one.

E-class without a single doubt. The R-class doesn't feel like a real MB from the inside, and it looks like a genetic disaster.

Not sure which E to pick the E280 or the E280 CDI, diesel is more expensive than petrol in Australia.

2nd vote for R280, something new with no smoke from exhaust at all ...!

Only two Station-Wagons I like in this world are, Subaru Legacy & Audi Allroad ...!

I think before we bash the R-Class we should drive it first.

I've driven the R320 CDI and while it isn't my favorite Mercedes this car does a much better job than the E-Class at being a family car IMHO. It's roomier, more comfortable for long journeys and has a little advantages even over an E-Class Estate.

So if I were to travel around Europe for some reason, the R-Class would be my choice hands down. The E-Class might look and drive better, but on a journey like this comfort and space are my priorities and of course fuel economy. So, R280 CDI hands down for long journeys across Europe, E280 CDI the rest of the time.

Voted for the diesel E. However I second Wimmer, the R is by no way a bad car. It may not look that exciting, but it's roomy, extremely comfortable, a perfect cruiser.

The E feels cramped by comparison, both at the front and for the rear passengers.
I don't like vans that much, but the R is not only a van with strange lights. And it looks pretty good for a van. Just needs something to be done with the headlamps.
