Me, Marcus and a few others are supporting good aesthetic. Forget about old world, modern and marketing orientated adjectives. The Brooklands is simply much better designed, it's as simple as that. The Phantom might be bolder and more in your face but the Brooklands looks more exquisite and not as bulky. The whole appeal of coupes is that they are sleek, the Phantom simply isn't

Besides that, the Bentley has a slightly more sporty and youthful appearance which makes it a logical choice for me who don't like the idea of having someone drive me around as if I'm an old man

Perception of beauty / aesthetics is a cultural phenomenon.
Different cultures (at different times & places) have different perceptions of beauty / aesthetics.

Perhaps it's time, Luw, you & Co. cross the line at last, and finally recognize the early 21st century aesthetics (of Western consumerism culture).

Brooklands is so late 20th century beauty. While RR Phantom Coupe sets the 21st aesthetics trends.

The shot you took of the brookland is in imho the worst one, cause unlike what you have said, for me this car is far from being sleek, it wants to be sleek but it's not, for me its design is very "lazy", designers wanted simply to create a modernized azure on the heavily modified old platform but the result is that this car is a fat car that want to be sleek.

I disagree, the Brooklands is not oldfashioned and reserved to old man. It is elegant.

But it is easy to describe it as old-world to excuse the Rolls. It is always the argument: not elegant, but "modern", "futuristic"...Just because it lacks elegance, class, you say it is modern.

I don't see the 21st century in the Rolls. Not at all. In fact I don't see much in this car, apart a Drophead Coupe with a heavy hard-top on it.

The roof is just bad integrated. The proportions are not 21st century, they are heavy.

The car is heavy, the C-Roof does not flow with the rest, and the roof is even cutted on the A-pillar, so this is obviously a lazy work ot "coupeishing" a convertible.

And trouble is, that can be seen. This car was designed as a convertible, and only afterwards became a coupe.

The Brooklands is sporty, elegant, sleek.
The Rolls is bold, heavy, massive. The lines are soft, and suddenly you have a massive roof here...
It is obviously a hard-top. I mean...the rear window is not inclinated enough, not coupeish in fact. You clearly see where the roof was put on the car, you clearly see the Convertible in this car. No integration with the boot.

The lines of the car, quite soft, are good because when they go with a fabric roof, they enlighten the whole, make it appear less rigid.
Trouble is, this roof here has the same colour/texture than therest of the car, and it does not flow. All the lines in this car are horizontal, and the roof is everything but integrated in these lines.

The Brooklands looks evident, natural, everything is harmonious, elegant, flowing. The whole car is a unique move, everything from the short front to the long rear suggest elegance, sportivity and class. You easily imagine the designer drawing it with a single move of the pen.

The Rolls is... massive, heavy but not in the good way. The overhangs are too short, the car is the whole appears too short, too high, and the massive roof tries to hide these proportions...With the very small windows to suggest elegance and sportivity, but it just does not look harmonious.

This is my problem. The DHC is much too obvious in this Coupe, and it does not suit it at all.

That does not mean I don't like it, I wouldn't mind owning one, but it is far from beeing as gorgeous as the Brooklands.

Yeah I agree, and for that EnI, you have to use marketing senseless words...
I often criticized Phantom and DHC, but always recognized it was exactly what the market wanted. Brilliant products for today.

Here however I think they were a bit lazy, they did it the easy way and it is obvious.

There is no reason for this car to exist. The DHC looks way better.

21th century aesthetics? Can't see any of it in the Phantom coupe. The body shape of the car is actually old, in fact it's not a coupe but a two door sedan meant to offer maximum headroom in the rear, hence the high roof height and the shape of it. It's take straight from the old 2 door Rolls. So the only 21th century design element on the Rolls is the LED lights.




Then I don't get this whole thing about the Bentley being "old". You are talking about it as if it's a relic bought on auction. Earlier this week got to see both the Azure and Drophead Coupe in person and I can tell you that the Azure looks just as modern if not even more. The difference is that the Bentley is more evolutionary and targeted towards those that want a more timeless design which isn't too pompous. Lastly the Brooklands marks the ending for the current generation Arnage which will be replaced next year, the platform is close to 10 years old.

I`d choose the Brooklands without thinking twice!!

I`m looking at the profile of these car and the Phantom almost looks German in design. It appears too checked and edited next to the Brooklands. It`s just too busy looking in trying to tie "old-world beauty" with German design fads. It doesn`t work very well to me.

This is a British car... The design is supposed to be British.

The Brooklands is simply a more pure, elegant design.

Let me say this only once.
BMW fans will vote for Rolls-Royce. MB fans will vote for Bentley becuase RR is owned by BMW and we know what audi fans are voting for. Of course there will be a few exceptions but thats is marginal.
