Cars that did or did not impress me....

Ok I recently went to the Auto show and found that certain cars look better in person while others don't. Certain cars impressed me from the photos I had seen and others were massive dissapointments in person. Not that any of you particulary care, but I thought I might as well talk about my experience last night.

These are the cars that I found somewhat dissapointing.

CLS 55 AMG: Talk about a car that I used to love. This car was a dissapointment mostly because of Mercedes quality and the overall fit and finish was lacking quite a bit. The interior was blah, and the windows had rubber seals hanging off the ends because of its odd shape. I got in it and thought "this is 10k more than an M5, thats just rediculous"

RS4: Its just not what I expected (in terms of looks). I figured it would look good but I still think the E46 M3 is a better looking car.

M6: Just doesnt have the same aggressive look as the M5. The M5 is (IMO) alot nicer of a car.

Q7: In pictures I thought this car was awsome looking but when you actually see it in person you realize its just plain ugly.

Ferrari 612 scaglietti: Just boring. In fact the whole Ferrari display was a dissapointment and thats an overstatement.

carrera gt: Just went up to it and felt bored out of my mind. I thought the Ford GT was a lot more fun to look at than this car.

Cars that were better looking than expected:

All the Lamborghinis: The display featured four white Lambos each of them had a huge presence that I didnt notice standing next to the Ferrari display.

SL65 AMG: This car was beautiful. Just great looking. I was overwelmed by how handsome this car was. Those AMG wheels are awsome looking especially in person. The car itself was too much money, 185k U.S. dollars.

997 Carrerra 4s. Talk about a beauty. I really have learned to love all the 997s. There great and wonderful cars.

Lotus Exige and Elise: I think this car is great looking. Even though I thought so before I went to the show the cars still blew me away anyway.

The Flying brick: I know most of you arent very fond of Bentley but I think theyve turned their pretentious image around into a drivers car. They still have to cut off their fat, the arnage. The four door continental was great though, very nice and stately yet understated.

The Audi S8: This car is really good looking. I found that it had a beutiful stance and was overall and excellent car (at least to look at)

*i cant comment on the BMW's becuase I've seen the majority of them before I went to the show.

You didn't like the CLS??
What did you think of the new S-Class?
I agree with you on the M5 & M6

Well nobody can accuse you of not saying what you think Matt - overall, I would agree with you - I was relatively unamazed by the CLS too when I first saw one close-up (Sorry Marcus).

You are correct (which means atleast I agree with you ) that the Porsche 997's are beautiful cars - beautifully designed and beautifully built.

Your RS4 comments might start a battle but I'm inclined to agree with you about the E46 M3 being better looking.

All in all, what you said is fair - I just would take issue with you over the CGT - I love that car, I just can't understand how you found it boring.

Re: Cars that did or did not impress me from LA auto show....

I was impressed by the S class for the most part. They had an S600 there that was very nice (and extremely fast) but it pretty much met my expectation which is why it isnt on the list. I dont know if I like it better than the 7 or not.

Yes I was very dissapointed by the CLS maybe because too many people were sitting in it or maybe its lack of quality in general. The car is too low and also too goofy looking in person. The back seats are a little cramped. For example I couldnt put my head on the head rest without hitting it against the ceiling of the car. Also the car didnt smell right, New BMWs (from my experience) have always smelled really well. The dash board and interior wasnt anything special either.

But I will tell you the SL was very nice. I forgot how good looking that car is and flowed much better in style than the CLS.

My issue with Carrera GT is it lacks something special that the SLR McLaren and Ford GT seem to have. It's beautifully engineered, Im sure, but it just doesnt excite me. Thats all I have to say about it. The SLR is just more...well more cool (for lack of a better word)...

The carrera GT brought a tear to my I the first time i saw it...i believe @ the north american debut...i couldn't believe a car looked so beutiful... then I eagerly anticipated looking @ the Mercedes stand for the SLR Mclaren...and I ser my eyes upon what I believe one of the ugliest supercars...the car is cool but the incredibly long hood did not integrate well with the body IMO... I wish Mercedes had stuck to the design of the concept...that was gorgeous...I hopefully will head down to detroit this weekend

I dont know, Being with it in person is something else. The pictures dont do it justice. Just stare at in detroit for 5 minutes and i think youll get it. Its not perfect but its sexy and its got appeal that I feel in my gut but cant describe. Carrera GT doesnt do that. I would much rather stare at 997 for some odd reason.

Re: Cars that did or did not impress me....

I love the Carrera GT personally. I just saw a black SLR with custom wheels the other day in Beverly Hills (yeah shocker I know). I can say without a doubt that I like the Carrera GT better and would take it over the SLR any day.
