Just for the record: I'd take an S8 over any 7er any day! In black of course! | | | | | Moderator

Each car has its own character etc...In my opinion, it's just complicate to compare these cars. And I think, I would go with a Jaguar XJ. | | | | | Fanatic

Why did they compair a Allroad to a e-class They could of at least had a normal A6. | | | | | The Photo Phanatic

Wow this is incredibly lame.
I mean A3 vs A-Class?
A3 Sportback vs B-Class?
These cars do not even compete against each other. When Audi still had their A2 they had an A-Class competitor. The A3 doesn't compete with the A-Class: period. I've never even seen a comparison where the A-Class was compared to the BMW 1-Series. They don't compete. Audi and BMW currently have nothing to pit against the A or B-Class. It's that simple.
Q7 vs GL? I didn't read the article yet (you can't since the print is so small), but I suppose the Q7 won a point as well because it is the sportier car. Like most people actually care about that in an SUV. To me, the GL would be the better choice for the sole reason that it's great offroad (better than the Q7 according to a few tests). Having driven the GL320 CDI twice, I can attest that it's not a very sporty truck, but controllng it is pretty easy since the handling is quite good. Not sporty, but good.
A8 vs S-Class? I would have expected the S-Class to win easily here. Autobild and Auto Motor und Sport especially mention how both cars are close, but the S-Class is just the benchmark in this class. The A8 is perhaps a bit sportier, but the comfort is clearly not on the same level as the S-Class: from what I've read. Weird...
At the end of the day these are still opinions, albeit pretty lame ones.
I mean there was only one Mercedes that won: the E-Class. Everytime another Mercedes "won", the Audi competitor equally got a point. Lame. One winner per comparison would have been better. | | | | | The Photo Phanatic

Because having for example checked out the current Audi A6, and being a W211 E-Class driver, I wasn't impressed with the interior space of the A6 cabin. The transmission tunnel was a bit wide taking up precious leg space and the massive doors also made the space for forward passengers feel a bit small. The same is true for the rear of that same car. I don't feel this in the E-Class, which gives the occupants a feeling of spaciousness. This is one criteria for example that makes the E-Class "better" in the eyes of someone else.
And this comparison is pretty lame for many reasons. They compared cars that don't compete for the most part. A3 vs A-Class, A3 Sportback vs B-Class, Audi A6 Allroad Quattro vs Mercedes E-Class 4Matic and R8 vs SL. None of these cars compete against each other. The Audi A6 Allroad has no competitor from Mercedes. If they wanted a fair comparison they should have gotten hold of an A6 sedan with Quattro. The worst offense is comparing the R8 "super car" to an SL. My God, the SL is a GT car, not a raw performance car a la R8.
I can't read the print, since it is so small, but right now, the only car I can think of that lost a comparison here "fairly" is the CLK, because it's a very old car by now and well behind the 3-Series Coupe and A5. | | | | | The Photo Phanatic

The print is so small, I can't read it, but I am willing to bet that the "heavier" Allroad lost because it wasn't as agile as the "lighter" E-Class. I know that Autozeitung is a pretty sports-biased magazine so I am guessing this is how they reviewed the cars.
I still can't get over the fact that they compared the A3 to the A-Class and A3 Sportback to the B-Class as well as the R8 to the SL. That's an unfair advantage to Audi right there, especially since none of these cars compete against each other. I bet the A3 they pitted against the FWD A-Class even had Quattro! | | | | | Trendsetter

I think it is a clear signal that the Merc S-class is no longer unanimously considered to be solely the best car in the world. The next A8 will undoubtedly be the best car Audi has ever built....and I am sure Mercedes will be concerned | | | | | The Photo Phanatic

I believe something like 9/10 reviews give the win to the S-Class: and those that pick the Audi either like it better or are incredibly sports biased in some cases.
I'm not saying the Audi A8 is a bad car by the way.
I'd really like to read what they said. Are there bigger scans on the 'net? I checked Autobild and found nothing. | | | | |
