Here's how I can do it: I take the SL, then take the R8, and see what they offer relative to each other.

To get an idea of how the companies compared, AutoZeitung obviously wanted to include as many reasonably comparable cars as possible. When they looked in the class of sporty 2-seaters of similar dimensions
* with available V8s and electronically controlled suspensions in the 100K euro segment, the choices are pretty obvious. In the grand scheme of things, the SL is a very sporty car, just not to the level of execution of the R8. Such comparisons have been around for ages. 3.0CS vs 911, Corvette vs 911, M3 vs GT3, R8 vs 911, Boxster vs SLK, etc, etc. The cars don't
have to match up, stat for stat, feature for feature, for a comparison to be made, although it helps.
*Forget what I said earlier about the CL; it's actually quite a bit larger than I realized.
